SFS needs creative help...

The other candidates and I at my school are trying to get a Semper Fi Society off the ground, and so far everything's running smooth, but our OSO doesn't like the logo we came up with so we had to scrap it and i'm not coming up with anything good to replace it. If anybody's got suggestions, I'm all ears.

-school's mascot is a panther
-prefer it to be black and white (or transparent) just to keep it simple
-obviously has to incorporate the Marine Corps somehow
-trying to commit as few copyright infringments as possible

that's pretty much it. lots of room for creativity. throw whatever you've got at me, any help at all is appreciated.

you said any and all suggestions, so here's one...

panther (or cat) eyes (or whole face if you can fit it) with the EGA as pupils?

another suggestion might be have the EGA above (or below) the picture of a panther... if above, maybe have the EGA "shine some light" down on the panther?

or maybe with this pic below, have the EGA under the chin?

just some quick thoughts I had as I read your post.

Just had another thought that might make a good addition to my last suggestion with the EGA under the chin of the panther.... along with that setup, maybe find a picture of 2 Marines either in Dress Blues at attention, or in Cammies, full pack and gear. Super impose the Marines to stand on either side, so the panther is between them.

Does the club have to be Marines only? Why not make it a Military Aviation Organization or something of the sorts? BTW, if you want info about a MAO I run the one at my school...

I think you're missing the idea a bit. A "Semper Fidelis Society" inherently deals with Marines and Marine-type activities. Semper Fidelis, after all, IS our motto.

Anyway, back on topic: I vote for a big, bad ass panter head with an EGA in it's eye, or something along those lines. You could always go with the coat of arms type of thing, too. I would advise against any cutesy cartoon stuff though... Unless it's really well-done and (in my opinion) subtley offensive.

SFS isn't just for Marines... its for anyone who has even the slightest notion that they want to be a Marine or wants to learn more of what being a Marine is all about before making the decision. The SFS doesn't make Marines... it educates about the Marines.

Word.
I'm not a Marine, so I've got to be careful and avoid saying or doing pretentious **** that would result in my getting my ass kicked by at least one of the Marines on campus that I'm hoping will show for the first meeting.

But yeah, Semper Fi Society - geared toward Marines, open to everyone.
The few of us there are now happen to be pilots, but we're not going to focus on the aviation, we're mainly going to work towards preparing for OCS. (although in juniors we did have to walk in a row down the parade deck scanning for pebbles, which is kind of like scanning a runway, so there are some aviation applications if you look like them... man, that day sucked...)

Sounds like there's some support for the 'eye of the panther' concept. Gonna pursue that some, i'll put up whatever i come up with (provided it's worth posting).

KEEP 'EM COMIN'!

I understand that you want to gear it towards the Marines. I was simply thinking that you may be limiting your audience somewhat. Perhaps there is an abundance of students interested in the Marines at your school - I really don't know.

What does the OSO have to do with a club that you are setting up?

Why don't you try to contact an NROTC unit and get a sample copy of a charter or constitution from their Semper Fi Society. That way you can have some guidelines as to what kind of officers you might need and what duties they might have. That is, of course, assuming that this is going to be more than a drinking club with your buddies where you talk about how you're genetically superior to the rest of the world. I don't know if you want to make this a non-school associated 'club' (hate that word) or if eventually you plan on trying to get it recognized by the school government.

Then promote the hell out of it. Typically in a Semper Fi constitution it will specify that membership is open to anyone seeking a commission in the Naval Service. Geared towards Marines, yes. For Marines only, no. While I was in school we had a Navy option mid as vice-pres of our Semper Fi for a semester. We held a large field meet each spring, the birthday ball each fall, and did a Toys for Tots drive at the end of each year, plus other things that came up. Again, if you can get your hands on one of those documents most specify in there the events they are mandated to hold. You might want to hold off on that for the immediate future, save one annual event to help get things rolling, but it's something the next generation of members can continue to work on.

Also, no ideas for the logo, unless you want to use Hobbes aiming in with an M-16 and/or putting someone in an wristlock comealong...

don't worry, we've got our charter, mission statement, recognized student organization, all angles covered.

only thing we're short on is a logo.

focus, guys.

...Hobbes, huh?

Seriously, though, we had a t-shirt made one time that was a MARPAT tiger 'stalking its prey'...you know what kind of picture I'm talking about. Maybe adaptable to a panther?
