I am probably going to be hated for this, but i never registered with the service selection system. I knew about it i guess i just was apathetic at the time. Will not doing that affect my chances of OCS? It's a question on the application. I should put no i did not register right?

Are you sure your mom didn't register you or something? I am a girl so I don't know much about it, but I thought it was way illegal not to register. Ask your recruiter, he will know. Here I found this online http://www.sss.gov/fslottery.htm.
It says on there that you can register now online if you haven't done it yet, so that would probably be a good idea.

If you haven't registered and then you join any branch of the military, you are automatically regiatered when you swear in... it's part of your paperwork...

Even better, when you do join the military, it serves as "proof" that you did not intend to avoid registration if you hadn't previously registered.

If not registered, people sometimes find out years later when looking to get a gov't secured loan (i.e., student loan, gov't aid/grant) and are denied becasue of that.

It was also part of your EPSQ for security clearances. I had to have several guys look up their number even though theyhad been in several years already.

Don't be an idiot. If you haven't registered yet, then just go do it. It takes almost no time and there is really only downsides to not doing it. No brainer.

What he ^^ said. I never registered, save for signing my enlistment contract when I was 17. Checked with the Selective Service people, and I have a selective service number. If someone's in doubt, they can go to the selective service website and check to see if the paperwork didn't get lost in the mail.

I don't think you can register for college if you don't get your SS done, and if you don't go to college you cant be an officer anyway. Maybe I am wrong.

You can be an officer in the Marine Corps and not have a B.S./B.A. It's called the Meritorious Commissioning Program. Shit-Hot enlisted guys who have their Associates degree can apply. They can't be promoted to Major without the degree though. They do a fleet tour, followed by the degree completion program, then back to the fleet.

I registered when I turned 18, but a problem happened with the DMV. When I got my new license there was a box to check to automatically register for the SSS. Low and behold 12 months later I get a letter in the mail from the Federal Marshals saying that I have 10 days to call a number and explain the situation otherwise a warrant was being issued for my arrest and then the Marshals would be coming to find me. Turns out the DMV screwed up my in the process and the SSS thought there was a person with a slightly different spelled name in my house.

The SSS is not something to mess around with these days.
