So I am sitting here wondering what sort of meme I should use for when the results come out, and people with 1 message count state that they have PRO REC Y. Any good suggestions? Something like this....

Thanks!

I'm just saying that some members of this IDC thread have started to diminish the resumes and background of the SWO selects due to the high selection, especially when many SWO selects have scores higher than a few IDC candidates. Let's just keep a level head and wait for IDC next week. Good luck.
Not sure if that was directed at me but I was saying that GPA isn't everything. You have to look at the whole person concept. Something a lot of civillian applicants may not understand. Its not as simple as GPA's or OAR's. Theres more to a selection than the quick stats.

It's SWOtastic

I understand and no, it wasn't directed at you. Some IDC applicants are bothered by the 97% SWO board selection and are passing off the selectees as a bunch of guys who couldn't get selected anywhere else.

SWO is age waiverable to 31 for those with prior service, no???
Yea you have to be commissioned by 31 which still makes no sense why it's that low and will only waive 2 years for prior . Even if I don't get my commission until I turn 34 I can still retire at 49

Um, what? First, if you think I was making a snide comment, I wasn't--I was just letting future attendees know that with the right background, an online degree can work just fine.

I have two published defense articles (one won a major award), was valedictorian in HS, cut my teeth leading Marines on the ground in OIF and didn't get an OAR in the sub-50 range. I'm not going to get into another one of these AW pissing matches. I'm sorry you waited so long to go for a commission--but that's your own fault.

Bottom line: I could have been NFO (chose intentionally not to take the extra parts--I knew what I wanted) and if you looked at my whole package (including a recent high DLAB score), some might have said I had a shot at intel, but make no mistake about this--I chose SWO so that I could be given leadership opportunities right away.

What was your DLAB score?
I was told on here this holds no weight for Intel selection...

They aren't everything but GPA and degree are a big part of the initial cut.

The DLAB (Defense Language Aptitude Battery) is what is given to those trying to enlist as a military linguist (in the Navy, this enlisted rate is called CTI). It is NOT a language proficiency test. In fact, all of the language in it is based off of made up language or bits of languages that they're sure no one will know...... it's whole goal is to see how fast and how well you can pick up a new language. Unless you're trying to enlist as a linguist, this score doesn't matter to anyone.

Once you're in the military, you will be allowed to take the DLPT (Defense Language Proficiency Test) to see how proficient your language skills are in a specific language. This will say a lot for your actual proficiency in language when putting in an OCS package, but unless you enlist or go work for the government first you will never be allowed to take this test. (This is because only military, and this is anyone in the military (enlisted and officer alike), or citizens who work in a language critical government job are allowed to take it.)

I wanted to say something because I've seen questions about or bad gouge concerning the DLAB come up several times in these forums. As a current linguist, I had to say something......Hope that clarifies it!

Thanks for your clarification, even though it might be a bit off. Sorry, I just mentioned it because my OR had me take it and said it might just be one more thing to help my package or as you said help show my proficiency in foreign languages. However, I have since been informed on here by NavyOffRec that it is pointless for my Intel package. So, when enlUSMC mentioned it as something that would help in a "potential shot at the IDC board" I was just curious what his score was...

Btw, your Icon Kanji 漢字 for AI 愛 is missing the heart 心 between the top root for receive and bottom Kanji for friends which refers to friends receiving one's heart or in other words love. The simplified Chinese character (only been in use for about 50 years) that you are using is not the traditional standard and feels more like friends than lovers. The simplified character is only used to simplify writing in the Mainland but the traditional is used in every other aspect throughout the Mainland and the world. Maybe you already know this however, as a current linguist and purposely chose the simplified character for some personal reason. If not, hope that helps clarify it!

I always laugh when I go back to the States and see Americans with Tattoos of Kanji's that are wrong and have permanent mistakes! :)

I was manning a VFW table at a fair and across from me was a middle aged woman with all this artwork that said "peace" and other things, it was in english and chinese, well a older chinese woman who was with a woman I was speaking with and told her friend in broken english that the woman had misspelled peace in chinese so all the artwork that had peace was wrong, what was worse or the real funny is that she had copied the letters from her tattoo! They decided not to tell the woman all her stuff was spelled wrong.
