Just wondering...will having my private pilot's license benefit me in the long run with naval aviation?

I think this is one of those "your mileage may vary" kind of things. Tends to depend on the community, the command, and the individual.

We had a nugget with thousands of hours flying puddle jumpers commercially. He was very good at flying instruments and had great basic air sense, but it was like his mind had been calibrated at 150 knots or so. When placed in a multi-ship situation and 400+ knots having to keep track of more than just flying the aircraft, he was way behind the power curve (and his peers with no prior civilian time) through first cruise. Just couldn't break out of his comfort box.

So I am a firm believer in "your mileage may vary" or simply "it depends".
