The Conclusion... (thought I'd start a new thread from this one: What to fly... Advice?)

I got P-3's!

As it turns out, everyone who put down tailhook this selection and got it actually got E-2/C-2 except for one guy down in Corpus (who's NSS was better than mine). For some reason (Skipper said it was something about how TIMS won't accept "tailhook"... I didn't really understand it, nor did he), they split up the two this time around, and will apparently continue to do so until the next fiscal year. Unfortunately, you don't get to tell them which choice you'd like, however.

So that being said, had I put down tailhook, I would have gotten E-2/C-2, which wouldn't have been bad, but I think I'd rather have P-3's. If I go to the boat, I'd like to carry weapons.

Part of me wonders, "what would it be like to have flown helos?" But I think that's just because I was so undecided going in.

Anyone have any motivating videos of P-3's? Any advice? Thanks.

Like a monkey humpin a football at first if you're at all like me (though with your NSS you probably aren't). Congrats on your first choice.

Even "good" pilots are like monkeys fvcking footballs learning to hover.

Hell, even I looked bad on my 1st flight learning to fly helos... Thank god for retired W-5's with balls of solid steel. He just let me flail around and try to figure it out while he talked me through it.

Being able to fly a Bell 204 at 14 years old was priceless though. Made getting my learners permit seem anti-climatic when I turned 16.

Umm, apparently I am that guy. They told me I'm going to Meridian. They left me with the impression that I'll go to Meridian and it'll be decided at the end of Phase I there that I'll select either E-2/C-2 or jets. I didn't hear anything about them somehow splitting it up between E-2/C-2 and jets. It seems odd and I must confess to being somewhat dubious, but this Tailhook thing is so fouled up right now that I'm inclined to believe almost anything.

There were two Marines down here who got "Tailhook" too (one going to Kingsville, the other to Meridian, I believe).

Jets or E2/C2?

If you want to avoid the new tailhook selection after phase I. Start advanced ASAP. CNATRA doesnt have their ducks in a row yet to figure this thing out. Welcome to beautiful Meridian.

P-3 Motivational Video...

Anyone have any motivating videos of P-3's? Any advice? Thanks.

Ask and you shall recieve....

Not the full version...hilarious none the less...find an NAS Whidbey VAQ or VP guy, I'm sure they'll have the full version saved to the hard drive of their squadron computer...Paging Brett?

You mind me asking your NSS? The fact that I probably would have gotten E-2/C-2 (not to hit on that community, it's just not what I desire) had I put down tailhook makes the whole P-3 thing much more appealing to me.

That's strange they told you you could get either, though. The guys up here who got E-2/C-2 are getting orders to Corpus to do prop training.

Congrats on your selection.

They didn't say it so much as they implied it. My current theory is that nobody knows what they're supposed to be doing. There seems to be a communication breakdown or something between CNATRA, the Wings, and the various squadrons. I know people who selected tailhook only to show up in K'rock and get told that they got full-blown jets. I'm curious to see what they tell me when I get to Meridian.

Congrats on your selection.

Thanks. I've been smiling all day.

Well, I don't think if these guys get orders to Corpus that they'll get jets. The whole thing is kind of weird right now.

That's what they will tell you in Meridian too. All the books they issue (including the green book) is for strike. However, Phase 1 is about 5 months and anything can change two or three times before then.
