I'm getting ready to go on a long cross country. What is a good place to get a good seat cushion and what is a good price?
 
Best you can get is the Oregon Aero seat cushion. It's about $100, but it will last you a career, and can't be beat for comfort.

Second the "don't need a cushion." Just 1 more thing to forget in the cockpit.
 
Yeah I have broken my back and still dont use a cushion it is more superfulous crap. As you get more time your body will adjust.
 
I remember back in the day when I went flying with my dad and I had to have 2-3 seat cushions just to see over the dash. Good days back then; now he is lucky if I let him fly.

Let me qualify this comment that I don't personally use a seat cushion... This is the one that most people end up buying. I will say that I did use a seat cushion in Iraq, but it was one called "Cool Seat". We'd pull them out of the freezer (I kid you not), and they'd stay about 75 degrees (or so) for about three hours. Since I was flying for 5 hours (or more), after it was done keeping me cool, I'd usually unstrap (in the pits or an ADACG) and pull it out 'cause it was a pain in the ass... We also had "Cool Vests", but they only lasted about 1 hour. Very nice to have in 120+ degree heat.
 
Man its too bad you guys dont have air conditioning pumped through your seats like we do.

As an aside, the Prowler has "seat cushion air" which, when activated, will circulate A/C through your cushion to keep your ass cool. Of course, its only real tactical use is to help your crewmates "appreciate" the noxious gas you just blasted into your seat cushion (the goal, of course, is to get back to front seat "penetration"). :D

At least you're not stuck in a dark tube smelling of fuel and god knows what else if your CICO had taco bell for lunch. Add to that the fact that if pilot's AC is fine, they will say that they are freezing while you are in a no sh!t dutch oven in the back. It's pretty awesome.

I bought the 2" cushion base and it's pretty good. I'm 6'3" 170lbs and I have plenty of seat & knee room with the 2" version in the T-34. There is still about 3-4" of seat adjustment room also. It doesn't relieve 100% of the pain, but it helps. It doesn't slip or slide off the seat, and it doesn't retain much more heat than the regular seat. It cost me about $140 for everything including shipping. It is high quality material/stitching, and there is a carry handle. I bought the black and I'm very happy with the color choice. The foam that is used for the cushioning is very durable and I believe the 1" version would be enough to support someone of a similar weight (or less). I've seen other cushions around VT-3, but they don't seem to have nearly as much padding... though I haven't tested them out.
 
the T-34 actually has more padding than you think. During preflight, pull out the seatpad, it's gotta be a foot thick. I think the reason the seat hurts so damn much is the perfect 90 degree angle and the lack of mobility. No seatpad can fix that.
