Hey, here's a good link with an overview of NFO training: http://www.globalsecurity.org/military/agency/navy/trawing6.htm. Basically, everyone stays in Pensacola for API and Primary. Then some SNFOs go to Randolph AFB for Intermediate/Advanced while everyone else sticks around P-cola.

After OCS you'll stay at Pensacola in FL for API and primary. After that, depending on if you get jets or not, and if you go strike or not, you'll either stay in Pensacola or head to Randolf AFB (TX I think) for the rest of your training.

I think that info is correct. If anyone knows different, sound off.

Cman's got it. You'll do OCS in Pcola, wait around some, then do API in Pcola as well. Then you'll stay put, but your office will move down the street to Sherman field for Primary for four months or so. If you go P-3's, EP-3's, or E-6B's (ie. land-based aircraft) you'll move to Randolf AFB in San Antonio, TX. That'll take you six months, then for P-3's you'll head to NAS Jacksonville for the FRS, which is a year. Then for P-3's you can get stationed in Jax, New Brunswick, ME, Hawaii, or the west coast (which is either Whidbey Island or CA somewhere). For EP-3's it's either Whidbey or Rota, Spain. For E-6's it's Tyndal AFB in Oklahoma. If you don't get picked up for any of these after primary, you'll stay in sunny Pcola for intermediate in the same squadron you did primary in for about another 4 months. After Intermediate you may get picked up for E-2C's. Then you'll report to NAS Oceanna in VA for the FRS, and you'll be stationed there or head out west to Point Mugu, I think is where the west coast squadron is. If you don't get picked up for E-2's, you stay in Pensacola, move to the jet training squadron, one hangar over, and play with them for a couple months. Then you'll pick strike (EA-6B's) or strike/fighter (F/A-18F or F-14). EA-6B's you'll go to to Whidbey Island and be stationed there for a few years. F/A18F's, you'll go to Lemoore, CA for the FRS, and probably stay there, but maybe go to Oceanna NAS (where these sqadrons are going to be is still up for debate.) And if you get here soon enough to pick F-14's you'll go to Oceanna, VA and stay there 'til you transition to 18F's. Hope that helps.

Peace,
Matt

Matt, great info. I have a couple of questions for you.

1. Difference between E-6B and EA-6B?

2. What about S-3 Viking? Is it still in service?

3. What's up with the F-14 transitions? I thought they were going to be around for another 10 years or so.

Thanks,

C

You'll get to submit your preferences, but what you eventually get will depend on needs of the Navy.

CMAN the difference between the e-6b and ea-6? one is a modified boeing 727 which is the naval equivalent to the air force AWACS which is loaded down with antennae and radar and has the capability to launch strategic missiles at the touch of a button, the other is a suped-up a-6 with a 4-man crew capable of jamming radar and frying chicken all at the same time...also a tailhooker

Don't forget the War Hoover in the absolutely rockinest town out west: SAN DIEGO baby! The RAG is here and out of here you can go either East coast (Jax), Overseas ( Yokosuka, Japan) or Stay in the porntastic town of San Dog.

Thanks for the info JayMan. I was familiar with the EA-6B and it's mission, but didn't recognize the E-6.
