Rugby players on AW?

I've been talking to a few people via PM about rugby, and have slowly been realizing that rugby seems to be a fairly common and popular pastime in this community. I love rugby, and am really excited that some other people on here do too. So I thought it would be great if everyone who is currently playing rugby for any club (college team, men's club, or anything else), or has played rugby for a significant period at some point in the past would say where they play, what position, and anything else interesting they may have to add. Also, I was wondering if there are any official teams in or around Pensacola and/or any other bases on the SNA path.

I currently play for my college team in Arkansas, and have for the past 3.5 years now. I started out at wing/fullback, but quickly made the move to scrumhalf, where I have played for the past few seasons.

Any other ruggers out there?

We've got a bunch of ruggers down here actually. Three of us in my squadron (VT-86) all play for the same club team down here (Pensacola Aviators). We're the only club down here that I know of, unless you feel like driving to Mobile. Team's about 50/50 military/civilian. The civilians are the core of the team, and a good bunch of guys. We practice Tuesdays and Thursdays from 630-800 pm and play Saturdays. Matches are either in Pensacola or within a three hour drive (Panama City, Destin, Fort Benning, etc..)

As far as other places to play in the pipeline, I know there's a team in Corpus, one of our former players is there now. Personally, I played for two years at usna, then picked it up again when I got down here. Play a little bit of everything, but mostly flanker.

PM me if you want any more info about playing down here, good to see there's some other guys out there who like the sport.

I've played anything in the pack but currently am playing prop for the Jax Ospreys. I am also in the middle of All-Navy camp right now as a locke.

There are teams pretty much whereever you go. Played in P-cola, out in San Diego, and now here in Jax.

I played for 3 years at South Carolina, tore my meniscus and strained ACL last semester so that ended the college career. Played Flyhalf, Wing, Center, little bit of everything.

Awesome, it's good to know that there are teams out there along the pipeline! I've become a little addicted to the sport over the past few years, and I was not looking forward to leaving it. Maybe at some point in the future I'll meet you guys down on the pitch!

Reviving this thread to ask about rugby on Whidbey Island. I've been up here for a month, and it seems like the closest team is in Bellingham. I've heard rumors about a base team, but I haven't seen anything. Anyone on the rock have any clue?

Two clubs to look into are OMBAC (Old Mission Bay Athletic Club) and the Old Aztec Rugby Club. For OMBAC, they field a Div III side that won the National Championship at that level and a Super League (Top Level in US) side which finished last in the league standings. They did plan to field a Div I side last year but were not able to get the personnel for it and ending up having to forfeit the season. (I think anyway) For the Old Aztecs, they field a very good Div II side that went undefeated in SCRFU (So Cal Rugby Football Union) league play last year. Both clubs are well-organized and being in close proximity, they are natural rivals. Here are their websites:
