Roger Ball, good and not-so-good questions about the world of "Paddles"

Not to mention the only tailhooker President that I'm aware of.... :)

Clinton was.... Oh wait, you said TAIL hooker... My bad

GWB (#43) came out to the ship in the front seat of an S-3. So while he wasn't actually at the controls, that puts him above pretty much every other President with notable exception of Bush 41.

In fact, I think 43 and 41 are the only two military aviator Presidents in U.S. history (for anyone who doesn't remember, GWB was a TX ANG F-102 driver). I think I read that they let him have the controls of the S-3 for a few minutes on the way out to the carrier.

I would have demanded FCLPs and have flown the pass. Who's gonna say no to the President?

(plus, I know at least 80 LSOs who would love to "Fair" the president.. Even if it's MOVLAS)

On a serious note...because (1) I'm truly curious, and (2) I don't know the answer, and (3) I'm too lazy to "search the site" for earlier postings: Any LSOs ever been killed while "waving", either due to enemy action or aircraft mishaps that took out the platform? I know many who've jumped in the net (some were my fault...well, not my fault, but I surely had "two hands" on the lower ejection handle, I'll admit...13 September, 1978).

Don't know how this pass looked on the Ready Room PLAT...which, as we ALL know, is the only "accurate" way of assessing a night pass in a completely dispassionate and unbiased manner...but it looks pretty "rails" in this pic...
