Road to 350: What Does the US Navy Do Anyway?

The Mystery of the Unknown Sailor Who Inspired Trump to Shake Up the Navy (WSJ)

It's about the steam/electromagnetic catapult, uh, discussion. Should be free to read.

This shit gives me so much anxiety. I know I should say "fuck it" and retire in 2 years and 172 days to a life where I ref my college hockey games in the winter while I sail my boat in the summer and play my bass in my band year round.

But instead I'm worried about what shit show I'm being forced to leave for the next guy. This steam catapult conversation is a stand in for so many other communities right now. "I tried to make it better for you than it was for me. I failed. It's going to be worse now. Good luck kid. You'll need it."

Know this: You are powerless to change these things. Your greatest impact on the people you serve with will be the memories you share after you're gone. Very few among us can ever hope to leave a legacy like Rickover. Knowing that you made meaningful connections and a difference in the people's lives with whom you served is enough.

Hey, don't shoot the messenger. Go ahead and write the people who write the JPME curriculum. They don't have the same opinion of Spruance that you do.
If you have a JPME case study documenting Spruance's actions at Luzon, I'll gladly reach out and ask what they're teaching. Or you could have the maturity to admit you may have misremembered some of the details.

If you'd like to clarify which actual event you think you are talking about, I'd love to engage. I'm a huge Spruance fan, but that also means that I really enjoy discussing the many viable debates about his actions. But we'd need to start from agreement that Spruance didn't fight at Luzon.

I'm going to sound like the 1st Sgt piggybacking on what the CO says, But I find nothing but the truth in this statement. I just returned from another MCATA reunion, It was nice to be remembered as one of the guys who was always ready to give 100% effort.

Just know that soon you will be gloriously filled with the power of “I told you so.”
