Restricted Activities

Hello all,
I am an OC under the STA-21 program at ERAU currently and will be graduating in the spring of '06. My question pertains to activities you are or are not permitted to participate in that might be "risky" while you are in flight school. I heard the Army has you sign papers stating you won't ride a motorcycle, skydive, scuba dive,... and was wondering if the Navy has any such policy. Thanks in advance and I certainly hope the Navy doesn't have this policy, but it certainly wouldn't surprise me.

interesting...
The only limit the Navy puts on it is to make you fill out an ORM for any activity that involves risk and basically show that you have thought about it and have means to prevent it...

either way, ask your command

Honestly, ask your command. This isn't necessarily the best information to get off of an internet forum. The excuse "I fvcked up because of bad information on the internet" doesn't go very far.

Yea, and don't be blaming AW when you're standing tall in front of the man.

Thats some really decent gouge. I've acctually been wondering about that myself. I ride a motorcycle and have been for a while, but I really don't want to do anything that will mess up my career. Thanks again.

I would say this, if your goal is to become a naval aviator, that should be your primary focus. I love judo, still do it but didn't start until after flight school. There was a good course at P-cola at the time that I wanted to do real bad but decided to wait until I was a winged aviator. Being that since then I've had two broken ribs, a broken finger and toe and a hernieated disc, probably a good idea on my part. IMO, lay off the heavy stuff, whatever it is, until those wings are pinned on the left upper pec ;) . My .02 :D

pick your poison wisely

I played rugby all thru school, as well as for the military side. However, once I got to Pensacola, I hung up my cleats until I got winged. Reason being, it's easier to stay in flight on status as a healthy student and quicker to get your wings, then it is as a broken student. Rugby will always be there.

Having said that, the reason they frequently have such good teams from Pensacola, is that the kids coming out of USNA and USAFA have a lot of time on their hands before they class up, and they've played together at the collegiate level for years.

I just chose not to tempt fate.
