Reconsideration Letter Rough Draft

Some areas to expand upon are, mention leadership positions if you hold any in VFW, or any of the other organizations you volunteer with.
I don't hold any leadership position in the VFW. But the leadership positions I have held in my student veteran organizations are highlighted in my motivational statement. Should I mention them again or would that be redundant? Thanks for the quick response!

Don't duplicate, you are on the right path by highlighting what you have done to improve yourself.

Have you thought about applying for SWO as well?

Absolutely. I intend to as well as reapplying for Intel and Supply. Also, a friend of mine (a CEC officer) mentioned that EOD or some kind of other path to NECC might be beneficial given my prior enlisted rate and combat experience. What would you recommend?

Really? How long has this been the case? And are we talking EOD qualed "Es" or just any active duty rate?

The change came out this summer. No specifications regarding which rates can apply, so it sounds like folks outside the enlisted EOD community can give it a shot.

WOW. Was in and out of recruiting in one capacity or another for better than 10 years. Never heard of such a thing.

They did the same thing with PAO for a while, I guess when they realized all they were picking were priors or AD they decided to say AD only, the last civilian I heard of being picked is now the PAO for the Blues.

Frankly, I think it is BS. If the guy was/is EOD qualed, well then yeah, he goes to the top of the list. Guy was/is a JO, or whatever they call the mass communications specialists now, fine. But a blanket prior only thing is just wrong. The one PAO I ever put in was the marketing manager/PR guy for a large movie theater chain. He has had a great career. Why should a guy that was a HM or OS get the nod over him? I can't imagine what logic demands a prior service only limitation.

What we were told years ago was 2 fold, they were really only considering priors/AD for PAO, and they needed them to have a good understanding of the USN, more than could be taught in a few weeks/months, many of those they were picking up were PO1's, CPO's, and even SCPO's.

I am not surprised EOD has gone to this, the failure rate is significant, and if they only pick from EOD enlisted they kind of eliminate the possibility of an officer failing EOD school.

Edit: we are talking about low single digits here as well.

I have a good reconsideration letter a former applicant wrote and ultimately got selected for. Let me white out the PII and post it up here fairly soon. Good letter.
