Random Griz Aviation Musings

Good choice. I have a 2021 Silverado with that transmission. It’s a good bit of kit with a lot of torque capability. There are performance-built versions too. Wild to me that it was developed jointly between Ford and GM, so it’s in a LOT of vehicles now, and the early problems were largely worked out by 2020 MY or so.

Busy morning flying into KMGM Montgomery to pick up the boss before heading back to WPAFB. Got to follow a P-8 and a Army UH-72 in the pattern.

Happy Friday.

Flight home yesterday from KMGM. What was a quiet VFR flight at 3500' MSL turned into a little excitement as the Cincinnati wx turned into low ceilings with icing. The cloud layer was less than 1000' thick and we made the decision to get a pop-up IFR clearance at 4000' on top in beautiful conditions and penetrate the clouds on final - we picked up at best a little rime. (Icing Airmets are often very conservatively published in my experience) But that's the practical reality of flying GA in the winter months. Icing conditions are often managed vs totally avoided.

A week of flying down south was great since I had not touched an airplane since August. Regained currency both day and night! Which was awesome.
