My dad has a few of those stories when he was flying phantoms. Apparently the waist cat on the older carriers had an elevator at the end so the track was extra short. You were unable to keep your feet on the rudders because it accelerated so fast.
 
Why would a Phantom guy need his feet on the rudders for? Ugh jets....
