True legend. I read his own account of that fateful morning in Beyond Glory. Here's a great excerpt:

"Those Goddamn Japs, I should have hated 'em. Those bastards screwed up my nooky on a Sunday morning [...] About the time I saw a plane flash by my window, I'm laying flat, and my wife had jumped out of bed. It was just a few steps to the window, and she could look out and see that Hawaiialoh Hill, and she said, 'Oh Jon, it's beautiful!' And I'm lookin' at her beautiful little ass, and I said, 'It sure is!' "

I guess the moral of the story is, don't startle a snoozin' Chief or you'll get your ass (and a/c) shot to pieces!
