Reason number one to living off base in the future. What would I do if I couldn't roll around in my 64 Impala with my Mac-10 on the side of my hip?

Yes they keep track of it. Even though the ATF tracks who owns what, you won't ever see a list because criminals could just look up Joe Schmucketely had a registered mini-gun and they could just go swipe it. They also run a background check and get your fingerprint card and such. Lately its been taking anywhere from a month to three months to process, and the dealer has to hold your firearms during the wait. Since there are no new Full Autos available to the public since 1986 its fairly easy to track the registered ones.

I think it is DUMB to have to have them registered under the NFA, which was just an excercise in feel-good socialistic law, to keep a bunch of ATF agents (yes, I know it had a different name then) employed after the repeal of prohibition.

Very true. Ironically in the middle of the AWB when an AR-15 with a bayonet lug was $1800 I got a full auto Uzi for $3k. We've got a serious battle on our hands if we want our kids/grand kids to be able to own firearms of any kind.

Florida is very nice as far as gun rights go. You will need to become a Florida resident to get a CCW, but that in itself is relatively painless (just get a drivers license and register to vote, no state income tax either). If you're at NAS Pensacola, just drive out the front gate, and a few miles up is a Tax Collectors office, you can do it there.

Florida lets you buy long guns with no hassle whatsoever, and handguns have a 3 day waiting period. The waiting period goes away once you have a CCW. Ask any local gun shop, they'll give you the paperwork for a CCW. Took mine about 2 weeks from dropping it in the mail to getting it in my mailbox. Florida CCW's are also valid in 29 other states, which makes traveling nice and convenient.

Edit: As far as military goes, your military ID or a copy of paperwork granting you a pistol marksman ribbon counts as "proof of training". At least in Florida.

Your local Sheriff's Office should be able to print you electronically for your license. It greatly speeds up the process. The license is good for 5 years, and, as of today, you only have to be fingerprinted with your initial application, not when you renew which lops about $50 off the cost.

Ok, I haven't read all the replies, but I've already seen bad gouge. If you don't know anything about MA gun laws, don't post. They're very specific. CaptainRon, PM me with your questions and I will respond when I have time. I still hold a LTC-A from MA.

Wrong. Dead wrong. There is NO RESIDENCY REQUIREMENT for a CCL in FL.
