Ok, when somthing like that F-14 happens is the ejection system manual? I'm just wondering because I could definately see someone losing consciousness from that. Is there some sort of automatic ejection system? I only ask because well, I've never stepped foot inside of a cockpit and have absolutely no clue. Also, what does ejecting at mach 1+ do to a person? I can't even imagine the forces that are exerted on a person just ejecting. Also, does the parachute deploy at the altitude ejected from? Just a few questions I hope you'll entertain me with an answer.

No automatic ejection. You have to pull the handle. The only automatic device they have is a command ejection, which will eject everyone if you pull the handle. I don't know how that works in the F-14.

Mach 1 ejection he ouchy ouch ouch ouch.

once you pull the handle everything is automatic (from firing to hanging in a chute), but you (or the other guy) has to initiate the sequence.

So if one person pulls the ejection, both are leaving the aircraft? How did that SWO eject from the F-14 and the pilot stay in?

Only if it is set up that way.

The pilot stayed because he wasn't dumb enough to let a SWO eject both of them :)
