The 1st time I did a spin, my life flashed before my eyes. It is not uncommon to have anxiety before flying. Hell, I get nervous just walking to the plane. But I start thinking about the training and how hard I worked to get here. Now the anxiety turns into confidence and I'm ready to do some serious flying!

Fezz, your attitude/post personifies the transcendence that is the flight school experience. Attention flight school students: Follow this man's lead and you shall succeed! You truly make me proud and I hope to have you on my wing someday.

1. Family situation. Assuming all goes according to plan, I won't be getting out of the Navy until I am 32 years old. My whole life I have wanted to settle down and get married by my late 20s, have some kids, a great wife, drive the kids to hockey practice, etc. So my main concern is that I will seriously jeopardize my chances of this happening. I assume that long deployments, separation, and the danger of the job make finding a woman difficult. Can somebody please post on this or PM me with some brutally honest thoughts?

Not really. They're listed in the yellow pages under "escorts"

We get so many posts complaining about flight school (It's hard, I get sick, my GF doesn't like it, etc), it's nice to see that there's someone out there who actually gets it.

The fact that he is SNFO has nothing to do with it? ;)

1)There are enough posts on this site about family life. Do a search. Being a SNA or NA require 100% commitment a family requires a 100% commitment. If you have both one will suffer at some point at the expense of the other.

2) I have been far more worried about letting down one of my buddies, instructors, or family then I have ever worried about becoming a smoking hole. I do not want to fly or go into combat with anyone who does not feel the same.

3) Who gives a rats ass if some hippy or anyone else gives you trouble. They will never understand anyways. We have the last laugh because we have the greatest jobs on the entire planet (Hugh Hefner a close second) and they will never know the feeling of flying for your country.

There is more then enough info out there to make a informed choice. Don't ask a million questions about OCS, flight school, military life, etc because your just gonna piss people off. Prepare yourself mentally and physically then sack up and get on the plane and never look back or find something else to do.

Sir, I think I know what you are getting at, but this statment seems fairly contradictory.

As I see it, wannabe's have a responsibility to themselves and those they hope to serve with to ask questions, even stupid ones. Yes, there is a wealth of information out there (right here), but without asking some of the dumb and annoying questions, you would never know that. Having done it, I can say the things I have learned were worth getting flamed for.

Doesn't matter what anyone says. For every
one person who doesn't want to share, there
are three others who are willing to. Count 'em.
