On Monday I took my eye exam and my refraction is over the limit for what pilot's need, but my OSO says it's alright for NFO, and i've passed the ASTB for NFO too, so we put the papers in for that.
He also told me that if I get PRK, i could have my refraction put back into normal ranges. But, the doc at the eye exam was telling me that because I'm farsighted, it's got less of a success rate or soemthing like that, and if they mess it up, I don't get NFO or Pilot and I am back to ground.
Does anyone have anything like this or any info they can put in to help me out? I'm going to call some of the PRK docs today and see what they say about it because I don't mind being an NFO as opposed to being a pilot, I'm content just being in a plane at all. I just wanted to know if it'd be worth the risk to get PRK and hope I get bumped up to pilot.

I had prk in august and from what i remeber reading it only corrects near sightedness. But you probably want to ask a doctor, or jsut do some research online.

I had PRK done two years ago and know that the guys in San Diego are the resident experts. Priscilla Balagtas is the one who schedules appointments, and might be able to lead you in the right direction. Her # 619-524-0335, email - plbalgtas@nmcsd.med.navy.mil.
hope this helps

I am farsighted and had PRK. It worked for me but still did not qualify for Pilot because of the depth perception test. Could not see depth before the operation but could see some afterwards but not well enough for pilot. Talk to a PRK specialist before making your decision because they are the experts. They can give you more information than anyone else.
