Scenery is/can be spectacular but it is mostly "look but don't touch". The beaches are full of thongs, male and female, and they think it crude and rude to stare and drool. In spite of the apparent "looseness", they are pretty damned thin skinned and will take offense quickly.
I spent a lot of time in Brazil and speak a pretty good level of the language. Not always what it seems on the surface. As in any large city, pay attention to where you are going and keep your head on a swivel. Pairs is best and sometimes even that is no deterrent to muggings late at night.
I found the beer taps at individual tables to be a blast but also expensive. Can be a really fun place but mind your manners ....??
