I know speaking for my department at the time, it made any pledging I did for a fraternity look like childs play... I can still feel the slight burn of tobasco between my ass cheeks

I'd take tabasco sting in my butt over some other things any day....

I had no idea that this equator-crossing hazing could get so hardcore and crazy. I'm very intrigued.

Then you have the whole "gray area" that some crews end up in..

I have been south of 0 latitude but our CO did not allow a crossing the line ceremony. None. Nothing.

So I'm basically still a WOG as far as I understand it.

Thats weaksauce, Its really shitty that tradition and fun is killed at the expense of one or two assholes... By assholes I mean the idiots who killed/beat/injured someone. Sorry to hear you two caught the shaft on that.

Yes. Being whipped with a shillelaghs is a thing of the past.

No shillelaghs but firehoses which killed nobody. Knees took a beating crawling the entire length of the flight deck, no such thing as a "Real" Royal Baby nowadays since there aren't any fatboys in todays leaner Navy. No molyB ass packins I'm sure but the surf and turf at the end and unlimited water for the showers were a huge plus.

We crossed the equator in March 2003 (we were in a rush to get to the Gulf) and did the ceremony in October 2003. I still have my shellback card, but some guys transferred off in Bahrain and missed out on the ceremony, they remained wogs.

We also had people transfer on in Bahrain that tried to get in on the ceremony, but we didn't cross the equator on the way back. it was really strange.

I still remember both crossings, the second time we had a 20 year Chief that was bragging about his 45 days on his sea counter. He was lucky I took him on as my project and one of the other saltier dogs didn't get him. Ahh, good times! :D
