A poll by the Military Times newspaper group suggests that there is overwhelming support for Senator John McCain among U.S. troops in every branch of the armed forces by a nearly 3-1 margin.

Military Times Poll: Troops backing McCain

According to the poll, 68 percent of active-duty and retired servicemen/women support McCain, while 23 percent support Senator Barack Obama. The numbers are nearly identical among officers and enlisted throughout all branches of the U.S. military ....

Quick & dirty: The charts ...

Most folks at Travis seem to support McCain. I'm in the minority no matter which poll is more accurate

I know on Sailorbob and AW, most people seem to like McCain, so maybe retirees are included in the Zogby poll.

We've got retirees on here as well... Which lends to a poll here to see what our users think - and which one may be more in line, the Times or Zogby. It's private, so no one will know who answered which way...

Keep in mind that Military Times readers are older, higher ranking and longer serving than most military personnel, even they point that out.

The military leans in favor of a veteran. I'm shocked.

And what is the conclusion we should draw from this? Is this supposed to be some "tacit" endorsement of McCain by the military? Why not drop the pretense and just coup him into power like some tinpot dictatorship?

Don't worry. I'm sure that ACORN has enough felons and people casting multiple ballots to cancel out the military vote.

I figure I should participate in this poll since I did participate in the Military Times poll. Sen. McCain's veteran status did not influence me into supporting him. He just sees things more the way I do than Sen. Obama. There are many things I do not like about both candidates, but it is a lesser of two evils (I'm not saying either are actually evil).

I guess that you mean that the folks who spent their lifetimes fighting against socialism, don't want to elect it.

I'll buy that.

So your opinion is worth more the older, higher ranking, and longer serving you are. Gotcha.

Well, that settles it, I'm voting Obama. I'm just a butterbar and these guys impress me.

Since when have we gone to war with Canada, Sweden and New Zealand? And who says that Senator Obama advocates socialism anyways? Oh, wait, thats right, it is all part of his hidden conspiracy that only certain people seem to know about!
