Not exactly "heavy"...

These were taken last spring in Kaneohe Bay (2000 feet, vectors to downwind)...a day prior to some ridiculous winds kicking up and shredding our hangars...

Crazy! I went up to North beach during that, and the waves were POUNDING!! Ah, the shredded hangars, and you guys moving in to the wing building, what fun....

why dont they have a NAS in hawaii. it's naval headquarters wouldnt it makes sense to have an air station there (besides the marines station there already)

I think it was BRAC 96 that got rid of NAS Babers Point, and the Naval assets were relocated to MCBH Kaneohe. A lot of money has been dumped into that base, while it sucks not "owning" our own field, I personally like the winward side better... Though, if they bring a carrier to Hawaii (have they decided yet?), where is the airwing going to be put? hmmm.... my guess is back at Barbers, boy, that will go over really well...

Putting a carrier there would be a HUGE mistake. Military/civilian relations are strained enough. Another 6000 people, plus support, plus familes....driving on the H-1 would be a NIGHTMARE.

Windward side was great. Even on the Marine base, it was nice. Away from Hon. Intl. Can you imagine an airwing right next to the airport now? That would seriously suck.

I've only visited (my mom moved there), but I have to say it's one of the most beautiful places I've seen. With that said however, I think after a couple years I'd be ready to leave. There are benefits to living on the mainland with the rest of civilization.

Yeah, you get tired of the islands, and advantage of the P-3 community, you can hop on a trip somewhere when you get island fever and get it out of your system.

how would u describe the P-3 community, what types of people usually find themselves settling in pretty comfortably? sorry about COMPLETELY changing the focus of the thread... ill repost elsewhere if u guys want
