Megan, FYI, I wasn't alluding to your thread in my post. Sorry if that's how it sounded. I just want to drop the abortion topic because I don't want to see Akamifeldman having to defend his family on this forum. He shouldn't have to do that. I don't think anyone else wants him to have to do that either; we just blundered into the topic not knowing his past. Your two cents are always welcome, at least as far as I'm concerned! Not trying be the thought police. :)

typical....anytime someone's "feelings might get hurt" you have to drop off so you don't offend anyone.....no wonder the world's as it is today. so lock the damn topic if you like...until then you can choose to either read or not read what i write.

meghan: you saying abortion is much too personal an issue to discuss and then saying it's got to come down to personal choice and responsibility. what's so hard to understand about this- it's a loaded answer. youre basically saying abortion is a choice- that's the whole debate! so dont consider that the "bottom line". people's choices are not unlimited, which is what i gather from you....when it either goes against a law or violates a fundamental human right (which so far no one has proved definitively either way) it's NOT a choice.

akami: the tough situation experienced by your family isnt the only situation. you should see the amounts of money spent on post-abortion counseling every year...it's astronomical. im sorry your family had to go through with that. so have millions of others. youre turning facts and figures into a personal attack. your family made the "compassionate" decision....does that mean it was right? not if it shouldnt be a choice to begin with. once again you see people judging people (ie your family), not actions, which is what it really is. this has nothing to do with people themselves. people who have abortions arent "evil people", but that certainly doesnt dictate whether their decisions are right or wrong. most people who have abortions are doing it for mostly selfish reasons, but there is a significant percentage doing it for "compassionate" reasons. that doesnt dictate right and wrong, which is what youre assuming...that's called moral relativism and it philosophically doesnt work. youre once again assuming that it comes down to the personal decision and responsibility of an individual.....which in fact is one individual making a choice for another regarding right to live. and the only other time this is allowed is with removing life support or not initiating care for the elderly or sick, all of which requires legal consent from that individual ahead of time.

I think if we stay on the abortion topic, I will lock (or talk to the mod of this forum about locking) the thread. I don't want to be 'that dick moderator', but this certainly is getting out of hand. Please, let's stick to the original topic of John Kerry.

I would suggest that 'if someone's feelings get hurt' we should move on. We're all on the same team here.

Why don't we just start a new thread on Kerry since they ruined this one. If they want to yell at each other about abortion they can continue to do it here. We can discuss Kerry somewhere else.

What do you all think about the situation if say Clark was chosen as a running mate for Kerry. Gen Clark was the best choice for the Dems who just couldnt pull it together in time

Remember, there are 10 factors in deciding the VP running mate.

1. Pick someone to help you win.
2.-10. DON'T MATTER.

I think it could get well be one of the other dem contenders. I think *if* kerry wins, I would rather see clark(e?) than anyone else, save of course Al Sharpton... haha, *dead*

Edwards would be the clear choice for running mate. He can win the south and I personally think he has a lot more class and is more tactful than Kerry. I don't know if they will get along, but that probably doesn't matter. It seems that the object of American politics is to run to get elected, not to get elected to change something for the better or what you believe in.

ENSsquid,
I would say taht money is a huge factor too. Kerry is almost out so his running mate is going to have to bring some to the pot.

he's got the dem. nod, don't THEY give him a pot full of money? What about government contributions? I think a lot more people are going to be getting to the poles sice the media is investing so heavily on the rep vs. dem war going on right now. Some media companies are doing his campaigning for him!

I heard (on either Leno or Letterman, I can't remember which...I flip between both) that they were suggesting to Kerry that Clinton should be the VP candidate, because there is no law against running as VP after being president (this WAS a JOKE). Kind of funny, but VERY scary to me, I've had enough of that guy for one lifetime...and for that matter I do NOT want to see his wife anywhere near the whitehouse again. LOL! What does anyone else think about this?

Nittany...thanks for the clarification, after I typed that post, I re-read it, and then I re-read yours, and decided that maybe I was taking it the wrong way...which I am glad that I was. Besides, you won't be the dick moderator if you had locked this, you'd just be doing what you're supposed to do.

Kevin...I said it was too personal of an issue for an open thread on airwarriors...not in general life, just to clarify...and that's all I will say on this thread...if you want to discuss any further, feel free to PM me.

I am sick of debating, I have final exams this week, and then NCAA tournament time starts thursday....thank god for college hoops & sports bars!

I heard that the DNC is going to give him like $45 mil more, but that's really not that much in the big picture.

Screw them all... vote Nader (I just turned 18, gotta use my new right). If you want the dirt on Bush read "Dude Where's My Country" by Michael Moore. I don't trust Moore's commentary, b/c, IMO, he's not very bright, but he cites the sources of his thought-provoking findings... especially Bush's involvement with the Carlyle Group, as cited by NY Times among other sources.

Although I don't think Kerry is any better. I truly believe they are both only looking out for themselves rather than the middle-class nuclear families, the poor, inner-city, unemployed fathers, or the flailing small businesses across America. It's arguable whether Bush's $100 bil tax break for the rich stopped domestic corporations from moving overseas, but it seems pretty slimy to me.

However, I do support the war in Iraq, b/c Iraq was trading oil with the Euro-dollar, which could have easily caught on with OPEC. Oil is the blood of our economy (it costs the governemnt $1 billion each day for every cent they lower gas prices, which means that low oil prices are a neccessity for our economy), so if oil was traded in the Euro it could easily result in a Soviet Union-type collapse.

But the Patriot Acts are ridiculous. They essentially oust our constitution and Ashcroft has used the PAs to arrest people for things other than terrorism, which, throws a HUGE red flag. I agree that people should be punished for their crimes, but this shows that the PAs don't necessarily have anything to do with terrorism, and the name 'Patriot Act' itself implies that it is the opposite of 'patriot.'

Drill baby drill!
For me the patriot act isnt that big a deal, some stuff seems ridiculous, but the government is not going to be monitoring your library checkouts everday. Only if u are doing something seriously wrong is it going to send a red flag up... ie making bombs, not porn.

all that thing does is take down obstacles that can stop the governement from tracking down terrorists. as for arrests, whats better, over reaction or underreaction?
cant exactly stop a determined person if you sit on your hands. yeah some appear obscene, but like i said, better safe than sorry. i also have not seen any massive arrests (then again i dont watch the news everyday) nothing wrong with living with a small dose of paranoia (i lock my backdoor automatically when i come in, much to the anger of my parents who happen to still be outside)

my opinion only if you are doing something seriously wrong it will raise a flag, other wise you are fine.
for the constitution it is still very much in place. "I may not like what you say but i will defend your right to say it"

i like your analysis of the oil situation

Everyone has a different perspective on things in this world, keeps us in check and keeps the ego from getting too big, lets keep it civil.

as for the presidential race i really cant say much, but i would like to see Bush through another 4 years, just to see how it goes, never know what can happen till it happens.

Paranoia Paranoia coming to get you

The Patriot Acts DO NOT have a sundown clause on it, unlike the Nat'l Defense Act of '47, and regardless of your stance on terrorism or U.S. policy, you cannot argue that the PAs do not step on at least a few of our rights.

I'm not upset about the PAs b/c it threatens my porn business, I'm upset b/c the act threatens the Constitution, which I, as well as every other serviceman, will swear to defend with my very life.

And as so many people have said, "if they cost us our freedom, they've won."

Although the PAs are a long shot from removing our freedoms it is a start. Anytime restrictions are placed on our rights I grow a little nervous, as should all Americans. After all our forefathers sacrificed to give us freedom we should be very cautious when we lose any of it, no matter how small.
