Open carry in Wisconsin...but you'll still end up faceplanted if you do it..

Eh, maybe I'm not speaking for you...but I think most of us could probably hold our own in say, a bar fight, or other altercation.

My point is merely that gun restrictions disproportionately harm the weakest members of our society.

Look at England, now granny has to wield a knife if she wants to feel safe in a bad part of town?

Stop trying to call people "liberals" simply because you feel it somehow advances your point. You aren't even calling people with liberal ideas or comments liberal.

Your original idea has merit, and I feel somewhat the same way, but as long as we have the constitutional right to do something, we should be able to exercise that right no matter body shape, size, strength, heritage etc. Or location...

Also as an able-bodied male able to handle yourself in a bar fight, wouldn't a CCW (or open carry for that matter) increase your ability to be a good Samaritan?

Scroll through the thread. Which post # did I call someone a liberal? I never used the word.

What the hell does a being able to handle yourself in a "bar fight or other altercation" have to do with the second amendment? I don't think you have the slightest idea what the second amendment is about.

Some reading for you:

Maybe I am not being writing clearly, I am in no way advocating any sort of gun control, I am firmly anti-gun control.

I am not arguing against anyone being able to carry, I think we all should. I am simply stating that gun-control laws are additionally despicable because they target the weakest in our society disproportionately. If you are built like Schwarzenneger, or if you are 100 lbs, you should be able to carry to your hearts content.

I am in no way trying to say that if you are an able-bodied younger male you shouldn't be allowed to carry. Hell, we are probably MORE likely to carry and that is fine - because we are probably also more likely to use firearms responsibly to protect our society.

Edit: I'm not sure why people are taking what I wrote to mean that I am some how in favor of some sort of gun-control. I made a simple point. Nothing more.

Bevo: "left coast" = liberal in the context you used it. Reinforced by the fact that you told a poster he "didn't get it" when he thought you literally meant the west coast and mentioned non-west coast places that have gun control laws.

While we are finding things, find one place on airwarriors.com where I have EVER made any comment in favor of ANY sort of gun restrictions.

I don't get what is so controversial about what I said. If the govt takes my gun and my grandmas gun away, she is now in a position of being less able to defend herself when compared to me, simply due to her age. Therefore, the gun control law has disproportionately affected her when compared to me.

Even with Open carry in Wisconson, it's only good a few months out of the year. Coats cover up a lot.

I get what you're trying to say as far as the fact that it really screws over those most likely to be victims...I think the misunderstanding is when you say "handle yourself in a bar fight"...if it's a situation you can handle with your bare hands, you shouldn't need to use deadly force (a gun).

HueyCobra,

My point is that there is no sliding scale for depriving someone of their Constitutional rights. Is it any worse to deprive a journalist of their first amendment rights than it is some janitor in Alabama? The journalist might be able to use words better, but there he is not wronged more than the janitor.

When well meaning 2nd amendment advocates (like yourself) are talking about their issue, they often make the mistake of stepping on the slippery slope of limitations. We often start talking about using guns for hunting, self defense, or sport. All of those are perfectly valid reasons for owning a gun, but our founding fathers did not write the SECOND amendment so you could go skeet shooting on Saturday or keep a 9mm under your pillow. The citizenry has reserved the right to keep and bear arms to protect itself from agents of the government.

That is what is so troubling about the cop in the original story. He has said that he does not care that the local laws directly reflect the US Constitution, he is going to instruct his officers to restrict the rights of people who they see exercising those rights. That is some serious f'd up shit.

We'll see what happens when the repercussions from this spread around. To wit:

Short story, the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals has incorporated the Second Amendment. I wonder if the Supreme Court will be taking this up in the near future . . .

As I read that, it appears to me that this means states would have to recognize CCW permits in the same manner they recognize driver's licenses?
