online degree and ocs

Qualifying for OCS is just the first hurdle. Say the Pheonix and Harvard grads, both with business degrees, get into OCS. Both list Supply Officer as their first choice, but there is only 1 SupO spot open, who do you think will get it? This scenerio can be repeated "later" also with similar results.

Well, if both guys got into OCS, they would know their designator heading in. The Navy won't send someone to OCS they don't have a spot for (in other words, if both were accepted to OCS as supply, both are going to have a supply billet after OCS). Just sh!tpicking 'cuz it's monday morning.

Another thought, Colin Powell made it to General, and he went to City College of New York. I think performance by far outweighs where you went to school.

We even had a LT, kicked out of are platoon because again his performance, he was then assigned to Batt S-shop oh ya he went to University of Connecticut.

That's because UCONN sucks. (Their star bball player is named Rudy Gay? C'mon!)

When I was at OCS there were a few who didn't have designators until they were candi-os. Don't know why, didn't ask; I was trying to keep a low profile because I had taken some video classes and didn't want to raise suspicion! :icon_wink

I also believe performance outweighs, well just about anything. City College does have a good rep though.

You guys really need to get out more often. Online degrees are now offered by most state universities and even many of the private ones as well. Yes, even Harvard offers online degrees. You can get an online business degree from the University of Florida. University of Nebraska offers several as does the University of Colorado. I could go on and on. The point is that people need to stop assuming that when someone asks about an online degree, they're inquiring about the University of Phoenix.

City College way back in the day was a top tier school that turned out tons of Nobel Laureates. These days.....well, they let me teach.

Unless you're trying to get appointed to the Supreme Court or become the next Surgeon General, it doesn't make a goddamn difference where you go to college so long as it's at an accredited university.

The difference between Harvard and the local community college is twofold: first, that everyone in Harvard got outstanding grades in high school, while community college is a conglomerate ranging from people who nearly failed out to people who aced their SATs but just don't have the money for private school. Second, a big school like Harvard gets more funding for research, so they are likely to have newer, and more numerous, equipment. In the end, though, you learn the same stuff. College is about what the individual puts into it. Everything else is PR bullshit.
