OCS Questions

So I have a few questions that I can't seem to get answered and I was hoping you guys could help me out. I was Pro Rec Y as an NFO candidate in mid- May, my OR advised I would get my official letter in 2-4 weeks and would probably leave late June. Well we are on week 7 of no letter so I called her to see if she has a way to track it. She said she did and the letter was sitting on the program managers desk and had been for 3 weeks. She said she thought it may be because they are at the end of FY14 and I may not get word until November for a class date. She thought they would not be assigning any more class dates until after FY15 begins so no one will get notice until Oct/Nov, but I see people here with Nov class dates so I am a little confused. I am just wondering if anyone else experienced this? Does the start date and FY funding depend on what region you are coming from? Reading through this I have seen that most people get an unofficial date pretty quick after pro rec and get the official letter shortly after that. Is there something more I should be asking for from my OR or are her hands tied until the program manager is able to sign the letter?

Pilot/NFO selections for May and this upcoming board (results should be out next week) are all FY15 ascensions and likely going to OCS around the fall timeframe. NOPO put out recently that all July and August OCS classes are full and currently NRC in the process of filling classes for September and October. Sometimes it can be a quick process, sometimes not. Being that you haven't had a FINSEL letter yet you're likely going around that timeframe. Only thing you can do now is wait and hang out in the final select purgatory thread.

It sounds like this is another OR that doesn't understand how the FY works in regards to officer programs, FY15 is already here when it comes to OCS dates being assigned.

Sitting at PM's desk is just a status, I have seen people at that status for almost 2 years in some cases, it really doesn't mean much other than you are waiting in line.

Yea I'm right there with you. I don't mind waiting when I know when something will come, it's hard because it can be anytime haha

It's turned into a get excited every time the phone rings and then utter disappointment when it's not my OR. I will probably flip out when/if I ever even get an unofficial date because then I will feel one step closer haha.

Another quick question. I spoke with OR today and she told me there is no way to get an "unofficial" date yet I see most people have them. She advised she asked everyone she knew... is there somewhere she can look on her side that she just isn't aware of?

Unfortunately it sounds like you have to play the waiting game/final select purgatory until something official comes out.

Yea I'm there with you. I asked my OR about unofficial dates a month ago and he told me I'll know when I get a Final Select. So I just been doing two-a-days to keep my mind off it. I'm just hoping to hear soon. I check in with my OR every 2-3 weeks, but that's what he wanted from me. It's mainly to ensure I did not get arrested or hurt.

It seems that some people get dates "penciled in," where they have been tentatively assigned a date that appears in the CIRIMS(?) computer system but is not official until the FINSEL is issued. Other people have described a situation of their FINSEL being "on the PM's desk awaiting signature," which may be another way to describe the same thing. I don't think that there is anything that you can do to get an unofficial date, and you may well just get your FINSEL and never find yourself in that transitory state.

Seems I'm in the exact opposite boat. Apparently I have an FS, but with no date still. And more concerning is that I have to go to OCS on July 20 to commission by my age limit. That's less than 3 weeks away now.

I recommend you PM National OPO, or post your "soon to age out" situation on his blog. As you are aware.... 3 weeks until age-out with no OCS seat assigned, is cutting it awfully close. MAKE SURE they are aware and making every effort to find you a spot. It's YOUR career, so sound the emergency alarm right away!

Dude, you need to PM NOPO ASAP. I hate to say it but you might be out of luck because all July and August OCS classes have been filled already.

I just spoke to another recruiter and processor in my area (I've moved since I applied), and they said that since I'm prior service I won't have any problem getting an age waiver for SWO. I was concerned since I don't already have a waiver, but does that information sound accurate ? They told me not to worry, but of course I'm worried.

REPEAT... no matter what the "other recruiter/processor" said, make contact with NOPO, and get the straight word. Only then can you, RUFIO, & BuzzyBee stop worrying!
