I emailed the OCS contact person to get a prospective graduation date (my OCS date puts me there for the holidays.) A Lieutenant emailed me back with my date, an OCS mentor (whom I have yet to contact), and some strong advice to PT and go to the NKO website. I haven't really looked at the NKO site too much yet, but I will when summer school is over. I figure that the more knowledge I have the better, besides the fact that the LT very strongly suggested that I look at it.

What kind of stuff have you learned so far?

What is the link for the NKO site? I have never heard of it before. Also, how do we get a "mentor" or sponsor?

This is off http://www.nsgreatlakes.navy.mil/otcp/

If you have been selected for OCS and have been assigned a convening date, let us know via the "Contact Us" feature, if you would like a mentor assigned. Make sure to include your class convening date.

I am not sure how this mentor program works. Any info would be great.

Like 2shots says thats all there is to it. Email them from the OCS site and ask for one. Here is the info I got on the NKO.

1. Go to the Navy Knowledge Online website at: https://wwwa.nko.navy.mil/
2. If you do not already have a NKO account, click on the "NKO Registration" link and follow the directions to establish an account.
3. Once you are logged into NKO, click on the button for "Personal Development" Then go to "My Education".
4. On the "My Education" page in the upper right hand corner there is a graphic showing some motivating Navy pictures and the text "CLICK HERE TO ACCESS NAVY ELEARNING". Click on this picture to take you to Navy eLearning.
5. On the Navy eLearning page there is a menu down the left hand side of the screen. Click on the bottom button "Advanced Search"
6. On the search page click in the box under "Course Title", enter "OCS", and click the "Search" button.
7. Four topics should come up: OCS Service Etiquette, OCS Naval History, OCS Military Training Requirements, and OCS Physical Readiness Training.
8. To subscribe a topic click on its name and then click on the "Enroll Now!" button.
9. Once you are enrolled in the topics, click on the "My Enrollments" tab on the top of the screen.
10. From the "My Enrolments" page you can click on the "Launch!" button to take the course or click on the "Progress" button to check your current progress in the course.

The Naval History is 9 chapters and will take a while to do. You can print out the Studyguides to help prepare for the Exam (reading on the computer hurts my eyes after a while). It is good to have as you are going through the lessons. The other 3 can be done in about an hour each.

hope this helps

binary, go to the OCS website and click "contact us" or whatever the link is. You should be able to send an email and they are good at getting back to you quickly. If you get a response from the same lady I did, I feel certain that she will get your problem resolved ASAP.

Here is what I have been told about the login issue. To get an account on NKO you need to be in the DEERS system. Problem is you need to be at least active duty or reserve to get added to the system. Even the inactive status while you wait for OCS isn't enough.

So they want us to study material that we don't have access to  . This should be fun.

K, just got a response back from my mentor. It seems we have to get our recruiter to log us in as a guest account. Has anyone tried this yet?

Just received this email from the NKO help desk. I am in DEERS on Delayed entry and still cannot access the website. I think something is screwed up. I will try going through my recruiter.

"Hello,

Navy Knowledge Online is accessible to Active Duty sponsors and dependents with a service code of N (Navy), M (Marines), or C (Coast Guard) and category code of A, C, D, H, J, K, Q, R, V or Z (Active duty, Civil service, Disabled American veteran, Health Care, Academy student, Non-Appropriated Funds, Reserve retiree, Retired, Reserve, and Delayed entry).

Although you're in the DEERS database, you do not fall into this community.

Thank you,
Web Guard Help Desk "
