I have recently been picked up as NFO. I am wondering how to prepare for OCS. I have been told by my recruiter that I should be in by February. How can i prepare both mentally and physically to stay ahead of the curve. All the links I have tried for the pre-OCS and E-learning (engineering, history, etc.) do not work. Very frustrated. Any advice would help:confused:

PT, PT, PT. And as the date gets closer, ease off a bit to be rested and not injured before you go. Also, just mentally prepare yourself for a super-sh!tty time. It's gonna suck, but the end result is worth the suck. Also do a search for "big 4" and memorize the items. Should also be on the Navy OCS website. Congrats, and good luck!

Bogey gives good advice. I too am preparing for OCS. Pretty much, I have been working on the big 4, and I have been working on push-ups, sit-ups and runs. Hit 20 pull-ups today after a 15 minute tread run. Thats a record for me. Enough with my bragging. Make sure you time yourself too. yeah, does this make sense? Wine hits hard....

Biggest way people roll into H class and extend their stay beyond 12 weeks is by being in bad shape at the start.

Bring a nice iron and learn how to use it before you get there. After PT issues, failing the big scary room, locker, and personnel inspection is the other way that people have a hard time in OCS. A huge part of this involves ironing.

I will be joining many of you at OCS early next year but for now I am currently in the health and fitness career field so if you have any questions on the best ways of preparing yourself physically for PT please do not hesitate to ask.

Drink champagne and learn about exotic cheeses. thats what you guys do at navy OCS right?

-try these websites. I know you're going navy but the workouts are priceless, you will do great if you follow the advice. Also, learn some general naval knowledge on your own before you go. Most of all, do not panic when you get there. It will eventually end, and while it is the most stressful thing you will probably ever have to deal with, it is meant to be.

Try:

https://otcn.netc.navy.mil/OCS/index.htm - and accept the website's security certificate.
-thanks to Mr.Blonde for directing me to that website.

It at least has some of the memorization items - General orders, rank structure, etc. The E-learning stuff you should be able to access once you get that final letter. I just got pro-rec'd as a pilot so I hopefully will see you guys out there.

You've been gone for awhile now. How are you making out at OCS?

....do a search for "big 4" and memorize the items.

Memorizing the items is good advice, but being able to spit them out while under extreme duress is where you need to be in order to be ready for OCS. You might want to get someone to play "bad cop" on you to see if you really are ready.

Get your affairs in order...No, not that way. You're not going to die, although you might wish to sometimes:D. But seriously, you're going to spend your first nine weeks (until you become a candi-o) very isolated, and it would really suck to end up 60 days past due on your student loan or electric bill. Once you're in OCS, if you're in physical shape and not a complete dolt, you'll get along fine--but outside distractions can be a killer, both to your focus and motivation.

Sage advice. Take care of any relationship issues beforehand, too. I DEFINITELY saw some downtrodden/unmotivated candidates due to gf issues back home. you don't need that sh!t at ocs.

Haven't been to OCS just yet, but I'm doing all I can to prepare. If you would like, I have powerpoint flash cards of all the Big 4 knowledge that were forwarded to me last year and are still useful. Anyone who would like a look at them can PM me their email.
