Will someone who knows, FOR SURE, please give us the scoop on whether or not OCC-186 is cancelled and for who. On Marineocs.com one guy says only the board for enlisted Marines trying for OCS is cancelled and civilians are still good to go...Others however say its cancelled for everyone except women and PLC. Thanks.

Ask your OSO, he'll probably know more than the people here. What I've heard, as of last summer, it was cancelled. Then, a couple of months ago, it was reinstated. I get the impression that OCC-186 is on, but their are still seven months to go so who knows what may happen between now and then.

Whiskey,
You're contracted for 185 right? your package seems strong to me from what I remember, so why are ya sweating not getting into 185? Is it just the NFO availability that you're unsure of, or the whole damned thing?

lol...Maybe I'm getting spooked and looking for reassurance seeing as how the board is about to decide our collective fates, but if you don't make it, I doubt I would either. HAHAHA don't think I'm gonna make it to Nov. 11

Yes I have a contract for 185. Yeah it's the NFO thing primarily...Also, has to do with fact that I was very optmistic last go around and didn't make it...guess I don't want to get my hopes up again.

But if I don't make this one...almost a friggin' year if there's no 186...I quit my job two weeks before the deadline (this time) so I could focus on my PFT and begin to get my house ready for sale (if I make it). I've taken a bunch a crap from relatives because they think that I need to think about 'plan B' (i.e. "get a real job") if I'm not going to be accepted. Not sure why they're so opinionated about what I should be doing since I paid for my own education...guess it comes with having relatives. My wife has said that I should keep trying if its what will make me happy...so I guess she's the boss and I will...lol.

You're right about waiting. I don't think I'll find out until the end of the month...Are you east or west region slasher? Good luck and maybe we'll be freezing our asses off in Q-town come January.

Whiskey,

I'm west region, out of the 8th district. I can't believe everything I've worked for for the last 6-7 years comes down to what a few board members think of my picture. oy, I've already begun my vigil. Good Luck to you also, I hope to see ya come January.

He'll dazzle you with terms like "Code Red."
The last thing I heard from my OSO is that there are only going to be a handful of slots for OCC-186, and those candidates are going to be mixed in with PLC-combined platoons rather than being organized into a separate company.

TNWhiskey- I can sympathize with the problems balancing a job and the possibility (but not guarantee) of shipping off to OCS. This made for a lot of awkward job interviews- "well, I might be shipping off to Quantico in a few months." (The alternative, pretending that I'm actually interested in spending two to three years checking documents for Felcher and Whacker LLP, doesn't fit in too well with the whole "honor, courage, commitment" idea.) Apparently the selection boards prefer to get as many new 2lt's from USNA and PLC as possible so they can project how many new officers they'll have coming a couple of years in advance, and then just use a trickle of OCC people at the last minute to fill out the rounding error (this is basically how my OSO described it to me).

Kimphil- how is your application coming along? Are you looking at OCC next summer now? I decided a few weeks ago for personal reasons not to apply for flight, but I still want to become a Marine Officer through the JAG route, so if all goes well I'll still be in Quantico next summer.
