Obstacle course prep?

I feel I have a pretty decent grip on my PFT, as I have been scoring 280+ nearly every time that I have been tested. Now my focus has shifted to trying to prepare myself for actual events at OCS....i.e. The Obstacle course. I recently tried to climb a rope, and was successful reaching the top, but I had a really hard time on the way down, and as a result, burned my hand pretty bad. My question to those who have completed OCS is.... are there ways to prepare for obstacle courses?

Thoughts please.

The best way to prepare for the o-course is to be generally physically fit. They will teach you how to navigate each obstacle, and how to climb the rope. Unless you have an obstacle course in your back yard, I don't really know what you could do to prepare for it except stay in shape. It's not hard to do the o-course, you just have to use the techniques they teach you.

Perhaps in the deep south? Probably even NORCAL in your case.

I dont live in Norcal...and if you tour marineocs.com, you can actually find some pics of a few hardcharger's DIY O-courses.

On another note, you have no idea some of the people that live in California

If you're ever in South Texas near Harlingen, you can get some practice on the real O course. There is a school down here called Marine Military Academy for high school kids that has the exact replica of the O Course. We have had pool functions where we have been able to go through the course several times. Once you have learned the techniques, it's really not that hard. Good Luck

It can't hurt practicing your rope-climbing technique (with boots) ahead of time, and there's a little maneuver called the "college-boy roll" that saves about 5 seconds, that only about half the guys can master while at OCS. PM me if you want details.

The key to the rope climb is your legs.

There is two techniques where you use 80% legs and 20% arms to climb the rope.

Practice the college boy roll. (for use on the first bar). This will save you alot of strength and time in the end.
