O-4/DH Selection vs 2FOS

Thirded. It's an ultra small community but man do we need good engineering officers in NAVAIR and NAVWAR.
Except the self-evident fact that aviators belong in non-flying O5 sea tours. Why put a great officer with flight test experience who happens to 2× FOS for ACSB in a class desk or IPT lead position when you can billet them to a truly impactful role like CICO?

Because you also need solid officers with both operational and flight test experience in acquisition roles in order to help prevent shitty aircraft, avionics, and weapons systems from getting foisted onto the Fleet. As a LT, I was able to fix systemic issues affecting Fleet tactical comms systems through my role as a lead systems engineer and later APM at NAVWAR.

We're in violent agreement. My unstated premise was that there are plenty of solid officers who fail to screen for command -- plenty of terrible officers too -- but a few of the solid ones have test/acquisitions experience and would serve the enterprise far better as an AEDO than in a non-CO O5 sea tour.

I've got nothing against sea tours. I have the silver version of your warfare pin. I just wish we'd take it easy on the bean counting and just try to manage talent at the O4/O5 level.
