Nsi & Pt

I'm not exactly the most physically fit sailor in the navy, and I was hoping someone that has just gone through NSI could give me some info about the PT portion (I'll be starting May 21st). Here's my questions...

-When you show up, do you have to be able to pass the PRT, or just be within BCA standards?
-I've seen 3.2 mile run everywhere, but what kind of a pace do they run that in?
-When you graduate, do you have to score a good low in each category (pushups, situps, and run), or do you just have to have an overall score of good low?

I'd appreciate the clarification. I've been trying to prep myself for this over the past couple months, but I've never been a very good runner. Thanks for the help-

Most training commands that I've been to (as a student) will at least do a BCA for incoming students. According the the instruction, you must give personnel at least 10 weeks notice of a PFA (which includes another BCA and the PRT). I would imagine that with NSI being as short as it is, that you must pass the BCA upon arrival and of course, the PRT before graduating.

My recommendation is to be able to pass both upon arrival. Many folks are not good runners. However, 1.5 miles isn't that far....really.

When I was going through the various training commands, I went almost 2 years from API to my fleet squadron without a PRT.

As of last year for NSI. I saw one person get booted due to unsat bca, note: he was WAY over, but I wouldn't test it. Good low minimum in every category for the prt upon graduation. Note: if you happen to miss the run by a couple seconds, don't use wind charts and complain about a tiny hill that is on the run path. A couple of kids did that and were booted last year. Rumor is that the Captain was ready to let em go through until they pulled that sh!t out. Just something to keep in mind.

Last year we didn't have to pass the incoming PRT (which was run on the track with some pretty wicked February wind gusts coming in from the bay), but if you didn't, you were on remedial PT that was run by an EOD diver, so you should probably make sure that you pass. And everything that spyguy said was the same for my class.

Boot camp - PRT
'A' School - PRT (and this one was a couple months after a hernia surgery - not good times :icon_rage )
Power School - PRT
Prototype - PRT
BOOST - PRT
ROTC - PRT
API - PRT
VT-6 - PRT
SWOS- PRT

I guess I haven't had the same luck. My experience may be a bit unusual though too. I'm an unusual kind of guy.

you will have an initial PRT when you arrive that wont count, and 2 weeks before you graduate there will be another which will count.

The 3.2 mile run was done 2 or three times a week at your own pace. However, when I was there, you had to beat the cheifs or they would extend the run by a few hundred yards (I always beat the chiefs).

That’s ridiculous! You were selected out of thousands of candidates and you didn’t prepare for the training. Are you planning on being a pilot? You need to get your priorities straight or look into another line of work. I can't imagine showing up for a commisioning program in marginal shape. Not a good runner? Get off you ass and swim, bike do what ever it takes to be a sailor who is in shape.
