NROTC Timeline and Selection Board Dates

I have two questions:

1) Does anybody know the dates when the review boards will be meeting and/or when they will have made their selections?


2) Generally, how small is the percentage of applications that are approved? I'm looking for a ball park, obviously, but maybe a little more specific than just saying, "between 0% and 100%" I have heard of people who were accepted for USNA being turned down for the scholarship. That scares me quite a bit.

My application is done, and now all I can do is wait. I hate the part when it's all out of my hands!!!

As a recorder back in 2005, this was based on how many applications came in. The percentage was somewhere around 30-40. If you weren't selected on the first board, they rolled the results into the next one...all the way until the end, unless it was obvious that you had no business in the Naval Officer Corps...

There were plenty of guys who were turned down for NROTC that applied to the academy...and it actually hurt you a bit to apply for both programs (because it's not that you WANTED JUST the NROTC program). It was a very small ding, but if you were on the cusp (like I was) it may have been the straw that broke the camel's back.

My application is done, and now all I can do is wait. I hate the part when it's all out of my hands!!!

$hit bro...relax. You applied...work your a$$ off to have some fun because this is the time that you actually don't have to worry about it anymore...because it is INDEED out of your hands. Don't have to worry about fvckin' up the process...u know? Just don't fvck it up in other ways (drugs, bad grades, being legally stupid, etc.) and you'll be fine.

I checked that box saying that i was planning to apply for the other military ROTC scholarships. Hope they don't care too much about that. Navy is definitely what i want, but if I can't get that, I still want to serve and i want to pay for college. ROTC is the perfect way to do both! Thanks for your advice. I think it's pretty safe to assume that you got the scholarship? If so, how did you like it and what advice would you give to a (hopefully) future midshipman?

Affirm. I didn't like it while going through it, but that was because I didn't know $hit. I'm glad for the opportunity it gave me to fly and absolutly LOVE flying low and slow (even though I didn't know what a helicopter was before they told me I'd be flying one). Now I'm not even flying and still really enjoying the Navy.

Advice. Hmmm...Go to the search again and search for some other quips, but it really comes down to this:

Have fun, work had and of course, don't fvck it away. If you're not having fun, you're doing it wrong. If you're not working hard, it won't seem worth it in the end. And if you fvck it away, do your damnest to never make the same mistakes again, if you're still alive. If not, then it doesn't really matter.

...or refuse to major in engineering. I wouldn't suggest college programmers have no business being in the Navy just because they didn't get a scholarship right away.

Apologize to all who read it that same way...

I meant that the application was eliminated ON THAT BOARD RIGHT AWAY if it was obvious that you had no business in the Officer Corps. IE: Below 2.4-2.5 GPA with NO extenuating circumstances, multiple arrests, lack of motivation in personal statement (i'm doing this because my parents said I had to..), etc.

CPers, IMHO, are MORE qualified than not to be Naval Officers. To put up with the BS of NROTC just in the HOPE of picking up a scholarship/because they want to serve was pretty F'n Motivating for us scholarship snots.

Hey guys, I posted those dates for the selection board, and although they were of a semi reputable site, the guy posting was pretty seedy. anyway, i asked my local nrotc coordinator, and he said they dont tell him the dates and to just relax. any way, best of luck to you ctall, what schools are you applying to?

Thanks, WillT, and good luck to you, too. My schools are: Embry Riddle, Purdue, Virginia Tech, University of Arizona and Arizona State. I know, I know, U of A and ASU are loser party schools, but I wanted at least a couple schools on my list that had a chick/dude ratio higher than 1/20 How about you?

And thanks for the advice, Chunks. I'll definitely make the best of it (if I get the scholarship). And if I don't get it, I qualify for a full scholarship through chair force ROTC if I switch my major to EE, instead of my current major of ME, and I wouldn't even have to go to a selection board for that one. It's a pretty sweet offer, but I'm really pulling for the NROTC scholarship. I guess I'll just have to wait and see how it all pans out!!

And i know what u mean about the dude to chick ratio, but if u visit those schools, keep an eye out for hottie to she-male ratios as well. Take BU for example, Male to Female is 60/40, but hottie to she-male is like 1 to 2. haha. Oh yea, and about VTech, LT Browning told me that they fill up their midshipman scholarship slots by xmas.

VT would be a rude awakening to the others...

As soon as I knew I got the NROTC scholarship, I eliminated VT..but that's just me. Good luck.
