You're daisy if you do.
I aggree with a lot of the sentiment of this thread but the bigger issue is being missed. It's not that this one show is being aired or that some kid might be corrupted. The problem is that PARENTS aren't required to be PARENTS. So KIDS are running around unchecked and the PARENTS get offended when you have the nerve to tell the little sh*t he/she should watch where he/she was going. The burden of responsibility needs to be shifted back to the home. You know what, maybe you're kids are all jacked up because you're to busy trying to be his/her friend when you should be raising the little turd! Just because you didn't mean to get knocked up (or do the knocking) doesn't mean that you're absolved of responsibility. Grow up and start parenting. Oh and for you Dr. Spock types, take the moonrock out of you're a** put up the cheeva pipe and try to be a contributing member of society by reigning in your kids. You are the adult and they are the kids.

Another issue at stake here is that people are afraid to be AMERICAN and stand up for AMERICAN values. I say that it's okay to be proud that you father/grandfather served in a war that preserved your freedoms for another day. Hey, guess what? Yeah it's time you understood what people had to go through to unsure that you had the ability to stand on the street corner dressed like a Bob Marley hybrid gone awry and bad mouth this country. It's time that you understood what democracy actually means and you know what, it may be overused and misunderstood, but FREEDOM ISN'T FREE and it comes at a price.

I read somewhere a while ago that the term "politically correct" is no longer the right word - it should be "politically aware". I'm not sure who came up with that or if anyone has ever used it, but I thought it was hilarious - "politically correct" is no longer politically correct!

And the same parents who turn their kids loose at the movies on Friday nights so that the tykes can drink and get high and screw around unsupervised are the parents who will be complaining that Ed Burns said a naughty word and corrupted their poor little angels. And while Mom writes her angry letter, said little angels are playing Grand Theft Auto and watching "Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back" (which, don't get me wrong, is a great movie, just one with twice the naughtiness and a quarter of the inherent value).

And I don't know if it's political correctness or what, but it's something. My personal feeling is that it's a combination of people thinking that it's their constitutional right never to be offended by anything, and people refusing to take any kind of responsibility for supervising their children and actively raising them instead of expecting the world to just become appropriately squishy and inoffensive for the little bastards.

I apologize for the vehemence here. But of all movies, "Saving Private Ryan" is one that a family should sit down with, discuss what's going on, compare it to current situations, use it as a learning opportunity; it's freaking Veteran's Day. If, as a parent, you're too damn lazy to do any of that, fine, but heed the warning that it's running uncut and complete with naughtiness, hand your kid a copy of Anne of Green Gables and turn off the damn TV. And if you're going to leave the kid to watch it on his/her own, and he/she comes out the worse for it, recognize that you have no one to blame for it but yourself.

Whew. (Pant, pant)

Bravo! Well said.

Saving Private Ryan is not even in the same class as Terminator or Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, or whatever is getting these parents in a tizzy. If your young child is up late enough to watch Saving Private Ryan, that's YOUR fault as a parent. Not only that, but a young child will not understand Saving Private Ryan one bit.

That's all I can really say, Cate nailed it all.

I agree, the movie should be used as a learning opportunity. I hope that people who watch it, watch it not for solely entertainment value, but take a way respect, appreciation, and pride for our soldiers and in our country.

A few years ago PBS managed to air Schindler's List. Does anyone remember if it was unedited or if they caught flak about it?

The movie was fantastic and if I had kids old enough I would make them watch it and tell them this is what their great grandfathers went through for freedom. Explain that this is what our men and women are doing right now. Why hide a movie that is based on something that really happened in our history. I think it should be required in school to watch so there is some sort of understanding (as close as possible) as to what it was like there. This generation needs to be made aware of the people that fought and those that lost their lives just so they can be little pukes!

You want to know something really scary??? My so and I make our girls say please, thank you, sir and ma'am!! They even have to ask if they can be excused when they leave the table. Is this rude of us or what to teach our kids to have respect? Completely politically incorrect. At our last duty station I was at the house of one of the other officers and they have a 4 yr old. Every question I asked her her reply was "yep". I can't imagine letting my kids talk to other adults like that. I have 4 yr old twins and they better not answer someone like that.

I will have to sue though if I ask for hot coffee and then spill it on myself. How dare those guys at McD's for giving out hot coffee!!!! .kidding.
I really just wish people would start taking responsibility for THEIR OWN ACTIONS! Like the 4 guys that hit my husband yesterday and drove off. One of the first things I thought about is if the parents had actually raised their kids properly their wouldn't be as many idiots running around. MAYBE.

I agree completely that if you don't want to watch it then don't, but don't ruin it for the rest of us. I just tried to find it here in VA, and it's not showing around hereOr at least I can't get it.

The PC crap needs to go away. Everyone just wants to sue and make a quick buck so they can be lazy on someone else's dime.

It's the Entitlement Syndrome as I call it. Everyone is entitled to something and everyone is a victim.

And everyone who doesn't believe that's true is either ignorant, barbaric, insensitive, or any combination thereof. And the MAJORITY is never the victim; they're the evil oppressors! C'mon Fly Navy, I thought you'dve got that by now! :icon_wink

Schindler's List was shown unedited on NBC at least once. They had one intermission; beyond that it was commerical free.

My station in Kentucky decided to show Andy Griffith episodes for 3 hours 8-11, I am really pissed off at them right now. The only thing that there was to watch was the history of the Coast Guard, it was actually pretty interesting.

It seems to me that the more we try to protect what we are in law, the more we lose of what we stand for.
