It's sad how some people can't tell the difference between a mindless halftime show and a tribute to the Greatest Generation. There's such a thing as perspective, you know. Does anybody really think the FCC woud fine people for showing Saving Private Ryan? Come on . . .

The thing is, the FCC would fine for it. After the halftime fiasco, they made it clear that they weren't going to stand for anything, be it Bono cussing or Janet flashing, and they've refused to hand out advance waivers in this case. They usually don't act unless there's been some complaint, but you know that there's going to be some biddy in Wisconsin who doesn't like all of the potty-talk up on her screen is going to file one.

I thought it was pretty cool, though, that ABC volunteered to pay any fines for affiliates that decided to go ahead and show it. Kind of gutsy.

Here's the stupid thing, it isn't a live even like Janet or Bono. It's advertised before hand that they'll show Saving Private Ryan uncut. If that kind of thing isn't your cup of tea, don't F---ing watching watch ABC tonight. Besides, all their shows suck anyway, and the only reason I watch ABC is Monday Night Football, and College Football Saturdays.

Welcome to 10 years ago. Political Correctness is eating away at the country and is weakening it.

They should substitute it with the Longest Day, another great D-Day movie that's rated G.

Why subsitute it? Heck, the problem is that half the country thinks it has a Constitutional right NOT to ever be offended. I agree w/ Fly Navy. For crying out loud, it's the age of Digital cable. If you don't like what you see there's 499 other choices out there to watch. No one's tying you to a chair and making you watch a movie.

I agree Nittany. I'm just saying that faced with the choice of either having no movie, because of the PC police, or The Longest Day; they could go with The Longest Day. It beats reruns of whatever stupid reality show ABC has.

I do...and it makes me angry. Maybe it is the Scottish in me talking...but, people need to learn to toughen up a bit (no, make that a lot) and not take everything so offensively or personally.

And the same parents who turn their kids loose at the movies on Friday nights so that the tykes can drink and get high and screw around unsupervised are the parents who will be complaining that Ed Burns said a naughty word and corrupted their poor little angels. And while Mom writes her angry letter, said little angels are playing Grand Theft Auto and watching "Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back" (which, don't get me wrong, is a great movie, just one with twice the naughtiness and a quarter of the inherent value).

And I don't know if it's political correctness or what, but it's something. My personal feeling is that it's a combination of people thinking that it's their constitutional right never to be offended by anything, and people refusing to take any kind of responsibility for supervising their children and actively raising them instead of expecting the world to just become appropriately squishy and inoffensive for the little bastards.

I apologize for the vehemence here. But of all movies, "Saving Private Ryan" is one that a family should sit down with, discuss what's going on, compare it to current situations, use it as a learning opportunity; it's freaking Veteran's Day. If, as a parent, you're too damn lazy to do any of that, fine, but heed the warning that it's running uncut and complete with naughtiness, hand your kid a copy of Anne of Green Gables and turn off the damn TV. And if you're going to leave the kid to watch it on his/her own, and he/she comes out the worse for it, recognize that you have no one to blame for it but yourself.

Whew. (Pant, pant)

Agree 100%, Cate, well put. The world's eternal problem: there are more people out there equipped to have kids than there are people equipped to raise them. And Red2, you're right, I just hate seeing the world give ground to the PC crowd. The more you coddle them, the more they whine.
