NFO 2014

Hello,
Let me first start out saying that I just dropped my packet for NFO. Im prior army with an Iraq deployment under the 101st ABN DIV. I was told by my recruiter to try and look up other aviators and get a feel for what is expected of me. I picked NFO because I get along well with almost everyone I meet and my NFO score was higher than pilot score so i decided to drop a packet for NFO. I have always been interested in the aviation field since i was younger and heard stories of my great grandfather who flew in a naval aviation unit. Now,I'm sure the stories were a little fabricated, but none the less they were interesting. my great uncle was an aviator for the airforce, he never really said anything about it besides he liked the feeling of being able to fly through clouds.so, after reading these posts a lot of them are outdated and i know things change a lot in every branch of the service. So all I really know so far is that if selected i will be going through OCS and then to sere school, but I am clueless about what schooling I will go through for NFO, I really want to fly in growlers and superhornets. Anything that anyone can provide would be helpful.

Welcome aboard, Donald. A great place to start is this NFO Forum. Read and absorb as much as you can, before you start asking questions. Chances are, almost every question you might be asking early on, has been asked (and answered), in the various threads of this NFO Forum, posted over the past year!;)

Good luck in your quest for...NFO Wings.png

Good intro.

Are you saying Pilots don't, this intro could take an interesting turn.....:D

Not at all, I have been told by my processor that the key to a good NFO is being able to communicate effectively and get along with whomever you meet, because as the processor put "nobody wants an NFO that you can't work with." I suppose just like any profession communication is the key. Maybe I should have just rephrased that sentence better. ;)

Thanks for the suggestion, I have looked over a few of them, but some seem to go wildly off topic and a lot of them seem to be a few years old, and I just wanted to get as much up to date and accurate information as possible. That being said I will keep looking through them.

If you read this: http://www.airwarriors.com/community/index.php?threads/summary-of-nfo-flight-school.4217/
and this: http://www.airwarriors.com/community/index.php?threads/what-is-it-like-to-be-an-nfo.32049/
and maybe even this: http://www.airwarriors.com/community/index.php?threads/nfo-communities.35882/
you couldn't possible be clueless. Just because some of the posts are a couple years old doesn't mean it is dated, as it stale or inaccurate. There is a ton of great info there. Sure, some of the posts went off the rails a few times, just consider it great extra credit instruction in your naval aviation education. Please ask specific questions. You will get answers.

I was only quoting you. I not making any judgment, yet. There is a ton of info here and people willing to help, whether a sea story, dose of reality, encouragement or beat down. You are a prior. I think you understand the environment. Its only because we care ;).
