Next Board ~ April 2011

My OR has only mentioned the April boards. I hope to have my ASTB scores next week to decide whether or not I pursue a career in Navy Aviation or accept that job at Google.

I've also heard that the next board will be in April. That seems a little hard for me to believe, but even more so, I'm confused as to these numbers shown on this blog: http://nyusn.blogspot.com/2010/11/fiscal-year-2011-statistics.html

Those are 2011 Fiscal Numbers. It looks like the Navy is only accepting very small numbers (single digit) for several programs (for an entire fiscal year?).

Also, it's interesting to note the board date/months to the right. It looks like there's a SEAL board in January.

Kart, there's nothing hard to believe about it. With the job market being terrible, more people are choosing to stay or get in to the military. This means that many branches are reducing their boards, and also reducing the number of slots available. This isn't just a Navy issue, it's an issue being seen across all branches. If you combine the reduced requirements with the backup that's been occurring in Pensacola, it makes it even more understandable. Best of luck to you, if you choose to apply!

Kart, everything said above is spot on. However, I think you are also missing a big point. OCS is not the only commissioning source. Considering the other commissioning sources and taking into account everything said above should make it easier to understand those numbers.

I'm a bit surprised by the numbers as well, but that agrees with what my OR explained to me. Does the Fiscal year start in October? It's a bit of a relief to see the the Pilot designator only 64% full, but the next board being 5 months away I think it's very likely those number could change before then, most likely in our favor.

You are not reading it correctly. Pilot has reached 85% of its desired goal for the FY not 64%. Yes the Fiscal year starts in October. Good Luck.

Thanks. How I interpreted it was 64% have been selected and they've covered 85% of it with applicants, but who's to say how many of those applicants they will select. Is that correct? Also, if they hit 100% for the app to goal number do they close off accepting more people to goto the boards? That'd play a large factor in my decision to submit a packet now versus later. I suppose in the end its not worth getting too wrapped up in. I plan on going to April boards whether there's 1 slot or 1,000.

In it for the naked volleyball
Just FYI, there are 3 more SNA/SNFO boards scheduled for FY11. April, May, and June 2011. They're obviously all tentative dates, however, so all or none of them could get scratched. Additional boards could always be added as well.

Does anyone have a link to the board schedule? The NY blog doesn't have it up any more.

Sonog, I have no idea where else that info would be published, besides nyusn.blog. My best advice would be to ask your OR, because they probably have access to it.

Hi, first post. Haven't needed to post anything because this site has been a great help and most every question that's come up in my application process has been answered on here already. I am ready to submit my packet for SNA/SNFO and it was brought to my attention that the next board, and possibly the only board for 2011, will be mid-April. Has anybody else heard the same? A bit of a bummer to wait that long to find out, but I've been patient so far. Right now the question is if I should hold out and log a few more flight hours for the heck of it or just go ahead and apply now then sit on my hands for 5 months. I'm going to discuss it further with my office processor/recruiter next week.

Anybody else hear about April boards?

Hmm. Yes the next board is March for SNA/NFO, as I saw the listing dates with my own eyes when I went to the Office. Your package can only be submitted one month in advance. To clarify this, you can complete all the paper work at the office with the recruiter, but they will not ship your package off until FEB. Therefore, I would work on things that can make your package stand out in between this time. You mentioned flight hours, do you have your license? If not, then I would try to finish up and get that completed before then. Is your ASTB score low? 50 on OAR is middle of the pack, try to get at least a 55 or better. Look at your weak points in the package. Can you improve anything between this time? Volunteer service? Awards? PRT score/ physical fitness? I will be submitting my package for the March board as well. I always look forward to good competition! Let me know if you need any help.

Why doesn't anyone tell recruiters these things, you'd think they'd be more in the loop than us.... Even though I keep insisting it isn't happening, my OR just submitted my stuff for the "December board."

Prt doesn't affect it... They don't even see if you have taken it or not unless your recruiter writes it in there..
