New Updated ASTB Study Guides, Gouges, and Links

Hi. My name is Ian, and I've noticed that many of the links to guides and gouges on this forum are outdated and need some new fresh links. I've done my best to locate all the ones mentioned. At this point, I'd like to keep the list as updated as possible on the first post. This is my goal. I'm a former AT2 and I haven't taken the test yet, but I intend to in the upcoming weeks. Finally, I take no credit for any of the information that I'm posting. I only take credit for locating and sharing it.

(Update: for the most up-to-date ASTB gouge post click here.)

Navy's information on the ASTB:
http://www.med.navy.mil/sites/navmedmpte/nomi/nami/Pages/ASTBOverview.aspx
This is what the navy gives to explain how the ASTB works. There is a brief practice tests at the bottom of the page.

General ASTB Gouge and Mechanical ASTB Gouge:
http://navy.motbaillie.com/gouge.htm
as far as I can tell the General ASTB gouge is also referred to as the Marine ASTB gouge. This site also contains two other links that appear to be helpful with those wanting to know more information about OCS

ARCO Military Flight Aptitude Tests:
http://www.usarec.army.mil/hq/warrant/download/militaryflight.pdf
This is the book that I've seen most people suggesting here. I'm not entirely sure if using a commercial PDF is legal... but it's hosted on DoD servers (army.mil) so get it while it's still there.

FAA's Pilot's Handbook of Aeronautical Knowledge:
http://www.faa.gov/library/manuals/aviation/pilot_handbook/
Many people have suggested reading up on this for the aviation portion of the test. I'll update this later once I figure out which chapters are the best to read.

Aircraft for Amateurs:
http://www.globalsecurity.org/military/systems/aircraft/intro.htm
This site gives key terms and basically is a short glossary.

I'm going to keep these links as updated as possible, I've downloaded all of the PDF in the event that these sites go down and I might have to package them up and upload them somewhere. Please feel free to send me a PM in the event that one of the links is no longer valid so that I may find a suitable replacement. Also, let me know if I should include anything else, or remove anything on this post! Thanks, and good luck to everyone taking the test!

My name is Christian and I am preparing to take the ASTB this fall. Every where I have read, does not specifiy if we are allowed calculators on the exam. Are we allowed calculators? Thank you

Sorry for the delay, I've already taken the exam. I did fairly well, but pretty poorly on the aviation stuff. Now that I know what to expect, I'm going to take it again soon.

I'm not sure if there's a good website that has an ASTB test in particular. However, if you go to the "ARCO Military Flight Aptitude Tests:" link above, it has a practice test at the end of the book

I suggest buying the latest version of the ARCO Flight Aptitude book and the Barron's flight aptitude book. Test yourself as if you were doing the real thing with a timer for efficiency. I also suggest flight games in your free time to get the "very basic" understanding of flight physiology.(Flight simulator games) Shit hot link Zianac, thank you sir.

The Barron's ASTB test book seemed to be better when I took it if I recall. This was a few years ago so I don't know if it's the same. I remember getting an 8/9/8 though.

Some of the links weren't working. So I'm going to repost them. Newer links will always be towards the bottom of the page. As always, let me know if there is any new information out there!

TolgaK

PRO REC SNA!
I've been a lurker here for a while and a commercial pilot and instructor for about 18 months. I've been out of practice with math and physics for a while now. I used the 3rd, 4th and 5th links to prepare. I haven't taken the ASTB before, and I don't remember what form I had.

I got a 9/9/9 67!

Most of the questions were easier than in the gouges. A couple of them asked for very specific information. I hope the score will help me through, I have problems to overcome that most people here don't, so no guarantees yet.
