Just got one supposedly from a USMC Captain in Iraq. I've tried to fwd it to the FBI for follow up but can't seem to get it into their website!
I can't help but wonder how many people fall for this bullshit and buy into it.
Disgusted with the scam and the FBI with their website.

Dear Associate,

How are you doing my friend, great I guess… Now I know this mail will
definitely Come to you as a huge surprise, but please kindly take your
time to go through it carefully as the decision you make will probably go
a long way to determine my future and continued existence. First, let me
introduce myself. I am Capt. Michael Scholl, assigned to 2nd Battalion, 3rd
Marine Regiment, 3rd Marine Division, 3rd Marine Expeditionary Force,
western Anbar Province in Iraq. I am desperately in need of assistance and
I have summoned up courage to contact you. I am presently in Iraq and I
found your contact particulars in an address journal. I am seeking your
assistance to evacuate the sum of $10,570,000 (Ten million Five Hundred
and Seventy Thousand USD) to the States or any safe country, as far as I
can be assured that it will be safe in your care until I complete my
service here. This is no stolen money and there are no dangers involved.

SOURCE OF MONEY: Some money in various currencies was discovered and
concealed in barrels with piles of weapons and ammunition at a location
near one of Saddam Hussein's old Presidential Palaces during a rescue
operation and it was agreed by all party present that the money Be shared
amongst us. This might appear as an illegal thing to do but I tell you
what? No compensation can make up for the risks we have taken with our
lives in this hellhole. The above figure was given to me as my share and
to conceal this kind of money became a problem for me, so with the help of
a German contact working with the UN here (his office enjoys some
immunity) I was able to get the package out to a safe location entirely
out of trouble spot.

He does not know the real contents of the package as he believes that it
belongs to an American who died in an air raid, before giving up trusted
me to hand over the package to his close relative. I have now found a
secured way of getting the package out of Iraq for you to pick up.

I do not know for how long I will remain here, as I have been lucky to
survive two suicide bomb attacks by Pure Divine intervention. This and
other reasons put into consideration have prompted me to reach out for
help. If it might be of interest to you then Endeavor to contact me and we
would work out the necessary formalities but I pray that you are discreet
about this mutually benefiting relationship.

For more details please contact me via my private box:
captmikescholl02@live.com

Respectfully,
Capt.Michael Scholl.

Does anyone actually fall for these scams anymore?
I'm still anxiously awaiting the check from the Liberian parlimentary member. I only had to give them my credit card number, SSN, mother's maiden name. Funny, my credit score has gone into the crapper and I can't figure out why...

There is no Capt Michael Scholl in the Marine Corps. Might not be bad to forward it off to the NCIS as well...

I know Nigeria is the Scam capital of the world but how did you know this came from there. I like to believe there are entities out there that have gotten better than the Nigerians that started this thing.

The original scam was said to come from a Nigerian who was trying to wire money into the country under similar (shady) circumstances. Thus, this type of scam is known as a "Nigerian Scam."

Sort of like certain other jobs requiring a Boeski, a Jim Brown, a Miss Daisy, two Jethros and a Leon Spinks, not to mention the biggest Ella Fitzgerald ever. :D

All day, every day. We handle at least one or two cases every week where people lose money. Beleive it or not, I've seen cases where people have been approached at an ATM by a complete stranger and agree to help them out by cashing a check, and giving them the cash. The check goes through, the cash is given to the stranger, and the person is paid a thousand dollars for their trouble. The next day the check is no longer good, and all of the money comes from the suckers pocket. All of these scams depend on the greed of the victim.

All sorts of people fall for the scam, young, old, rich, poor, but the constant is that they think they are getting something for nothing.

This fine young Marine Officer has the same last name as me, so that obviously means two things. 1) He is of unimpeachable character, and 2) he is a long-lost relative, who will no doubt want to share the wealth with his extended family.

I urge each and every one of you to support this enterprising gentleman, since this is so obviously not a scam. This stuff happens on a daily basis to our troops. Don't most of our troops stumble into suitcases of hundred dollar bills, and trunkloads of Euros? Of course they do! That's why everyone loves deployments!

By the way, this guy has a future in politics.

The more likely scams people fall for involving military overseas is someone under the guise of a "liaison" of sorts, attempting to reach a family member to "assist" their loved one by getting "much-needed" money to them. More than a few family members have lost significant sums of money to these pieces of shit.
