Hello,

First, I wanna say that finding this site has been a blessing, there's so much information that could be helpful to our career development. I am currently an E-4 station in CA. I have always been interested in becoming an officer since I enlisted in the Navy. I was going to submit a STA-21 package about two years ago before I went to CO's mast. My package was just about to be sent off when I was notified I was going to mast. I indeed went to mast and my punishment was reduction in rank from E-5 to E-4, 1/2 month's pay for 2 months, and restriction/extra duties for 45 days. My mast has nothing to do with performance or behavior, I went to mast because of family issues(poor judgement) (my charge was adultery). I was basically told by my CO that I was going to be an example to everyone in the command. It was really unfair because I was making every attempt to process a divorce but since I was overseas (Japan), it became really difficult for me to start any type of legal paperwork. It was the most difficult time I have spent in the navy, I worked so much to get E-5 and it was so easily taken from me. I did not let that experience ruin my carreer and life though. It's been almost two years since that happened, and I have done a complete 180 in my career. This is where I currently stand:
AZ3 (AW/SW)
12 more classes to get a BS in Business Admin major in Accounting (gpa 3.3)
Collateral: Base Honor Guard/Recreation Committee/VITA Volunteer
Evals (since mast): Must Promote, Promotable
Awards: OIC LOA

Do you guys think that I have a good chance of picking up OCS or STA 21? I know that I have what it takes to be an Officer, and I know that my experience has made me a better sailor. What route should I take to become and officer? Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

Well, for starters STA-21 is a no go until I think 36 months have passed since your NJP. Once you have waited your time you may have obtained your degree and then OCS would be your only option. Well actually I believe that LDO would still be open. Definitely you will have to wait a little while before you can apply to STA-21.

Actually, NJP can be waiverable as long as it's endorsed by the CO(case-by-case basis). The problem would be how much would it affect my package, would the board take in consideration that this was not a performance or behavior NJP? I am so close to getting my degree and OCS will most likely be my best choice.

It seems as if you're too close from earning your degree to go the STA-21 route. OCS would probally be the easiest/fastest route for your situation.
