Heard of it, never played it. I was more talking along the lines of military sims. I'll edit my post so its more understandable for you.

..and im sure the game designers set it up so that you will fly around for 12 hours. Next mission, fly in circles all day, then land and start collecting Per Diem...after all, thats all those P-3 guys do right?

I think its a cool idea personally. Its a sim where you can play in all three forms, air, sub, or surface..of course its all centered around sub hunting.

What? You didn't know that? :icon_tong

Fleet Command KINDA did that, but you didn't actually get to control the aircraft and such in a 1st person view. It's a God's eye view kind of game. I know there is a B-17 game out there where you can gun.

The problem with sims like P-3 and such is that there is no real market niche for them. That's why super realistic flight sims don't do well, people just don't want to bother.

I do agree with you on the realistic flight sim part. I think the vast market of gamers just want the quick and easy run and gun style game as opposed to the realistic types. Me, the the realistic games are the only ones I like.

Is fleet command kind of like command and conquer style?

Yeah, I'm a realism junkie. I don't want to shoot someone 50 times to kill them, it's stupid.

Yeah, you can kinda say that about Fleet Command, though with ships, submarines, and aircraft as opposed to people of course. It's an older game (few years?) but it's fun, especially with the realism update that a 3rd party made. By itself it's not terribly realistic as it should be, but it's fun.

It's neat watching Harpoons slam into the side of Russian ships :)

Yeah, except it doesn't seem to work on WinXP . . . or am I missing something?

Thats common for those old Janes games..a lot of times there is a patch that someone put out to make it work. im sure if you searched you could find it..thats how i got Janes F/A-18 to work on XP

El Cid

You're daisy if you do.
So are these games fleet tactics kind of games or do you take on the role of an "individual" unit in an already on going battle?

This would be f-ing awesome. I heard it comes with a scratch and sniff card with circles for "bad coffee", "Nav vomit", "Flight Engineer Fart", "CAD stank", "Fire of Unknown Origin toxic fumes", "Burned Hot-Pocket", "unwashed flightsuit", and "funky urinal".

The new version will occasionally flash the screen with someone mooning you or showing you their junk unexpectedly.

Plus, "fun n games" with international and/or Air Force controllers incessantly chattering as you deal with a burning engine from on-station to flare-touchdown.

Get intercepted by weird foreign aircraft, almost as old as your 'Orion', flip them the bird, or offer them a Ramen Noodle cup...

But wait! There's more! With the new "Where am I and how much am I making for this hop?" feature, you can watch your per-diem rate vary and accrue depending on your location, based on real-life locations and scenarios, such as exotic Pattaya Beach (wrap it up Buster!), bizarre Diego Garcia (fight boredom off with a 10 hour SAR!), frigid Misawa (set the parking brake and the plane still slides across the ice!), or 'tip of the spear Overland' (dodge a SAM and fly with a crusty SAS advisor! put on 15 pounds eating MREs!)...

With the online version, play with your friends! Deal with maintainers on det getting in trouble with local authorities! Aircrew that can find a sub anywhere yet still lose their helmets! TACCOs with amazing max-ed out credit cards!

And when the time comes to stick it to Ivan...er...Wang...er...Habib...uh...well whoever...face the dreaded hung store or "No KILL READY". Watch actual video of the Nav hand pumping the bomb bay open...

HOURS of fun for the whole family!

<end rant>

(I'm sure the game will be much more action oriented, less 'Search', more 'Attack' and 'Re-Attack', with torps, harpoons, and hopefully SLAM-ERs flyin)

wonder if it will help me when i need to study for my PPC board... or if i can practice keeping the plane on the 4 mile scale.

Though interesting, I get enough time in the knob turner as is, i'd kill myself if i did it at home.

And why the Oliver Hazard Perry? Why not a DDG?
