New movie out soon. "300"

On a historical note as well (not movie related) the actual battle involved about 300 Spartans and "several thousand allied Greeks" who were able to hold back roughly 100,000 Persians for 3 days before the Spartans and a small contingent of allies fought to the death on the 4th day. While no where near the 2 million quoted, the feat is still nothing short of awe inspiring.

There were approximately 2 million in the entire army. Naturally, the 2 million could not have been present for the invasion of Greece as garrisons needed to be maintained across the then sizeable Persian empire.

After doing a little further researching on the topic I find it hard to believe that anyone has any idea about the total size of the Persian Army throughout the empire. Especially since they can't agree on the size of the army at the battle.

Wiki places the total (in an obviously cut and past from Answers.com article) at a total of 2.3million men at the battle (including the navy) with 1.7million on land. Now Answers.com admits that such a number is absurd and place their estimate at somewhere around 200,000 - 500,000. Other scholars place the total closer to 150,000 men on land. These numbers fall in line with the generally accepted size of Persian Armies at other points during the surrounding centuries.

The width of the Greek front was about 20 yards wide at the middle gate. Scholars place Greek numbers between 5,000 - 7,100 men.

Unfortunately I don't think the Gates of Fire film has gotten any more steam behind it than it had conceptually ~3 years ago, as the link comments on. 300 will probably be a bit more artsy than the Pressfield film would have been, regardless should be f***in cool to see it put to screen

I really didn't pay that much attention to the posts here, but if we're talking sword and spear warfare , why is this thread it the "Firearms" forum?

My original post was not about sword and spear warfare, but about what King Leonidas said to his counterpart....."......the term 'Molon Labe' was made popular by the battle of Thermoplae. When asked to surrender his arms, King Leonidas replied: "Molon Labe" or , come and get them."

The term Molon Labe should (and does in my case) refer to actions needed to confiscate or take firearms from law abiding citizens. It is a Second Amendment sort of thing.

Yes, I am a Texan. Yes, I like guns. No, I am not in favor of anyone telling me anything about what I can/can't to or can/can't have regarding firearms. However, I have not heard of "Molon Labe" in my entire life. Thanks for expaining, I'll try and appear more educated in the future :D.
