I have a Ram 1500 regular cab that I've had since before OCS. Currently I'm looking at trading it in because now that I'm done with all the moves for the most part, I can't justify 15 mpg for the commute any more. Looking at picking up something like a 2015 Camry since it'll cost less than half in terms of gas and maintenance than the Hemi, and 3-year-old Camries are about the same as the trade-in value of my 6-year-old truck (~15k). If I had to do it all again, I'd strongly consider starting out with something Camry-like and using a box truck for all the moves like Baconator said.
If you do go with the pickup though, don't get a regular cab. It sucks only being able to take one other person in the truck for those JO lunches.
+1 on the USAA car buying service, and I'd also recommend shopping a few different dealerships for similar vehicles, and asking them to give you their best prices, then sort of play them off each other until you get the best deal from one of them. I know you said new, but I'd at least consider buying something like two years old, that way you're not spending nearly as much on depreciation.
