NC Tundra Swan

Couple weekends ago I met up with a guide and headed up to Hyde county, NC. The field we were hunting in was corn stubble with an open blind in the middle of it and it was 22 degrees. At 0700 a couple of singles were flying and at 0730 bigger groups started flying. A group of three came to the decoys and circled. On their second pass they were low enough that I dropped the biggest bird of the group. It sounded like a Prius hitting the ground. Just like that the hunt was over. One shot. I was shooting 3" BB's out of an Beretta A400 Xtreme. Fun hunt and going to make a good mount.

NC issues 5000 Swan permits annually via lottery. $10 to enter the lotto.

The wife had a great hunt this past weekend. I'm proud to say that she dropped it on the first shot, with one shot.

Them's good eatin'. Now, come up to Alaska and shoot a Sandhill Crane.

A7D, I've wondered the same. Those pictures are two years old. I shot another Tundra Swan a few weeks ago.

Would love to shoot a Sandhill Crane. Do they hold true to their nickname....ribeye in the sky?

You can shoot Sandhill Crane in AZ. Not nearly as cold. Less expensive travel. Not likely as beautiful as AK. But within more budgets.

I will likely head back to my home state of Texas to hunt Crane. I do hunt coyotes in Arizona and continue to build points for big game.
