Nobody show these people a bump fire video. And what the hell is a "wifle"?

Totally ridiculous video, NBC should be ashamed of themselves... but of course they're not.

The best way to sway public opinion is to get them involved. Occasionally I take my friends to the range to shoot my Bushmaster, and they love it.

I'm all for guns, but I don't see the "hack job" many of you are alleging. What's the great wrong being portrayed here? Ohh, they called them "black" guns. Is that really so bad? They did preface their less flattering comments with a "critics say" and they also had the pro-AR side represented. I think some of you guys are a little too spring-loaded on this issue.

My big gripe with it is typical of my gripe with most mass media....What the hell was the story????

Here is a nutshell synopsis:

There are weapons, designed originally for miltary use, that have been used to kill police officers etc...on the street. Some people use these guns legally (after the expiration of the AWB) recreationally. Some people want them banned. Some people don't.

What exactly was the story again? What did the GP learn from this? F-in private media...

I do agree with Brett...this comes nowhere near the level of hackery many other daily news stories do...and this is an issue I am looking to get upset about.

Well, that's what many of our NRA-cousin members said & thought in Canada, Australia, and not-so-Great-Britain-anymore ... and then "poof" -- "all gone"!!! --- as reasonable, ordinary, and customary guns rights went away for law abiding citizens.

Sure, some pro-gun guys are a little "over the top" at times, but that's the price of vigilance it seems we must pay when faced with agenda-driven control freaks and assorted socialist spell-binders who just cannot --- nor will not --- be satiated until each and every one of us ... does it "their way" .... :)

We usually concur on most things, but not on this ...

The flip-side of that argument is that those who do go over the top (for whatever reason) tend to paint that camp in a negative light with the mainstream (there go the lunatic fringe again). At any rate, if one is choosing one's battles (and one generally should), this probably ain't it.

A4s, you hit the nail on the head . . . unfortunately I still don't see an agenda in the NBC clip. I saw no "hack job" there at all; if anything they spent more time covering the pro-gun side of the equation than the anti-gun side, and painted AR shooters as essentially normal people, which is a refreshing change.

They do have certain misconceptions about the pistol grip, which is used to compensate for the relative locations of the buttstock and action and resulting raised sights, not shooting from the hip. And my ancient Mosin Nagant was "designed to be used on the battlefield," too, back when they used bolt-action rifles in combat. So what?

Still, fair and balanced reporting, or as close as we're gonna get out of the media these days. Nothing to get yourself worked up about.

Naaaaa .... I'm not worked up. I've been doing "this" for too long to get "worked up" over it now .... mebbe 20 years, actively .... and 1994, now THAT was worth getting "worked up" over ... and "we" made a difference in several counties in the general election. Mebbe it will happen again. :)

Notice how the "other" side doesn't want to talk about gun legislation too much these days ... and
not Democrat or Republican, you understand -- seriously ... just "other side". They really don't want "Joe 6-pack" coming back to the voting booth in numbers not seen since '94 until "they" have a little better grip on state houses around the country to further the anti-gun agenda.

And remember: it's NOT just about "guns". It's about "control".

I just take the "other" side at their word. If they say they want to ban/regulate/register firearms in general or just "some" for now ... I believe them.

You-all need to READ the proposed legislation when it shows up instead of basing your arguments on 5-6 minute TV-news "in depth reports", written by people who will be writing about something else next week.

THEN, and only then do you have "knowledges" .... :)

Sage advice, and the "worked up" part was aimed not in your direction, but the OP's . . .

Well considering that the Supreme Court took a big chunk out of their arguement a few years ago with their descision on Gonzales vs Castle Rock, I think that the anti-gun movement is keeping their heads down until they see how the 2008 election turns out.

(In Gonzales vs Castle Rock the Supreme Court stated that the Police are under no obligation to protect an individual citizen. Kind of throws the "police will protect you" arguement out the window.)

I guess I dont have anything to say that hasnt already been said on this subject other than:

In what circles other than the anti-gun lobby are AR-15s referred to as Black Rifles. I've shopped all over the internet and never seen a 'Black Rifle' advertised.

Nothing to do with race, right?
