Cool...does anyone know if it's the same for the Navy. I'm married with a son and will have about 1200TT when I go in. Probably what their looking for in the way of hours to get sent to Vance or Moody, but I'll just tell them my wife will freak out if I we have to go to OK. Both our families live in TX so we want Corpus.

I don't know Henn..., it seems to me that they'll probably be under the idea that if you're willing to move to Corpus after API, you'll probably be willing to move to Vance too. Besides, for the Navy guys, you all do OCS down here and API doesn't qualify for a PCS move does it? If that's the case, I don't think it would matter (married or not) to them where they sent you. You aren't moving to Pensacola (from Virginia for the Devil Dogs and their families) for six weeks of API and then possibly having to move again for Primary. Maybe someone with some knowledge on this will pipe up so we can quit speculating! That's a TON of hours though. If you did stay it seems they would probably pump you through the accelerated course. Don't ask me what that is 'cause I haven't met anyone yet who's done it. Maybe I have. I finished Primary in 3 months. Surely there's something else though.

Oh well....what ever happens you know I'll just make the best of it, it's the only option. It's too far in the future to worry about anyway. For now I'll focus on OCS. 3 months is accelerated enough for me! Where did you do primary?

I went through IFS so I wouldn't say I have a lot of FT by any means. I volunteered for Corpus since I'm from HOUSTON, cause they said they needed bodies in Corpus. The next day they called me in and signed me for Vance. Wasn't much I could do about it sept cry. From the way most Navy talks down Vance, I assume they can't get volunteers for it, and just place (single) people at Vance by force. Cause I know I sure as hell don't want to go there.

Is one place you go for Primary more prone to be selected for a particular airframe than another? For example, if you end up in Vance or Moody will you be more prone to get jets than someone in CC. Or someone in CC more prone to get selected for helo's etc.

No, I don't really think so. Besides all the different variables that determine what you will select (not to mention what just so happens to be available the week you select) change so frequently (week to week) I don't think it's feasible to beat the system.

What's with all the bad juju about flying with the AF? I can tell you how we AF members veiw flying with the navy: vacation. To us, a gig at Pensacola, Whiting, or Corpus is like taking a 6-12 month vacation. No stand-ups, no rigid class system, and the bases are located in places where you might actually want to live (as opposed to the middle of Mississippi, Oklahoma, or Texas). Why work, when you can fly with the Navy?

Sorry Dupe, but thats just a load of AF BS. What I have heard about the AF from Navy folk is just as bad. The first thing I heard is that "The AF could take the fun out of Sex with a Porn Star" when it comes to flight training. Next, is that the AF covers alot of pointless info that you will not need as a future AF pilot. Lastly, the briefs! 3-4 hour debriefs?? WTF is with that? Brief and Debrief what is needed and not anything else.
Vacation? I think not my friend. Unlike AF dudes, Navy guys have jobs other than flying!

Actually, the Mentor is the B, the Turbo Mentor is the C.

Sorry Dave, couldn't resist. BTW, did you get my PM?

So they use the turbo-mentor? What's the difference (is it more than a turbo-charger, or am I way off)?

The B Mentor was piston powered, the C has a Pratt & Whitney PT-6 Turboprop in it. I think Beech did the conversion just for the Navy. It lengthend the cowling in the front quite a bit from the old model.
