Secret tracking device found in Navy email to Navy Times amid leak investigation raises legal, ethical questions

It appears that the Navy sought to secretly extract data from the Navy Times computer network.

This seems bizarre, if credible. What would the lead prosecutor for a case be emailing Navy Times for? And why would they think it's a good idea to go off half cocked playing with email tracking? Not understanding how this could be thought of as a good plan?

Seems like a clumsy attempt at finding out who was leaking info, maybe grounds for a new venue/judge but not dropping the charges.

The whole thing has indeed jumped the shark, and it began with the willingness of many in this country to hand-wave misconduct if it's done (allegedly) by a Seal. That Duncan Hunter (who has enough of his own legal shit to wade through) and the President have gotten involved is not good. Thr rest of it...who knows.

Andy Stumpf has a good podcast (Cleared Hot). He routinely tells people that the teams are just like anywhere else in the country, there are good dudes, douche bags, and fuckups - some can do a lot of pullups and tolerate cold water, but that doesn't make them immune to the rule of law or standards of conduct.
