Navy Pilot vs. Career in Business

As I have said in many threads before:

When I was part time in the guard, the guys I worked with in IT always wanted to hear about what I did on a drill weekend. Never once did someone at drill ask about the code I wrote in the cube farm.

For what it's worth, I made 30-40% more money in IT than I do now, full time AGR in the guard.
 
I would go for it. I was working as an unfulfilled software developer before I joined. I was decent at what I did, and was making good money, but I was becoming more and more miserable by the day. Just finished OCS and heading down to Pensacola next month to start flight school with a lot of excitement for the future. Best of luck to you either way.
 
I'm doing the exact same thing. Dude banking sucks, I know it, you know it, so does everyone else in the office. We are literally all working just to look forward to the 2 weekends a month that we don't have to go into the office. How is this even a question??? When I got selected and told them I was quitting I literally don't think i've ever been happier

I wasn't an I-Banker but went to a school that cranks them out (and was the only member of my class to commission Navy URL). I absolutely echo what everyone else has said--do it! The happiest teachers and professors I had were I-Bankers who quit before 40. They all had a great perspective on working hours (aka how much worse life could be) and working for a purpose you believe in.

IMHO*: You're also in a win-win re:USERRA. USERRA's supposed to give reemployment rights to any worker that leaves for up to 5 years of military service (provided you notify the employer before leaving and otherwise meet the law's requirements). In practice, many people who work for small businesses hesitate to elect reemployment protections, because they know it could really harm their employer's existence & co-worker's jobs. An I-Banking company? Yeah...I wouldn't think twice about making sure you're covered for potential reemployment.

So I'd check out the DOL's website to ensure you're covered when you leave. Then know that you can return to your office job if you drop out of OCS or flight school. Good luck!
