Navy ETHOS

Wasn't "Honor, Courage, Commitment" good enough? Isn't there something more prudent do devote these man hours towards?

I concur w/ single seat.

"Ship, Shipmate, Self" sure is a great ethos for those of us who work on boats...

Calling a person "shipmate" is like saying "fuck yer mother"...I never used the term (or heard it used) except as an attention getter before an ass chewing...i.e. "Shipmate...why the fuck are you sleeping on watch?!" or "Hey Shipmate...you know that huffer-cart won't fit under the P-3, right?"

When you don't have enough money to build ships, you have to find some other science projects to work on!

Stuff like this pisses me off (probably more than it should). It's like the Sailor's Creed. Is the oath we all already took not enough anymore?

Yeah, but don't you just feel more motivated already, knowing that someone's working on the problem? :icon_tong

Yes, new slogans are definitely the answer....

"written, all encompasing and politically correct..." Why do we need all that? I vote we go with an interpretive dance version:

Learned this at the AIRLANT SOY board in 1994 - "Tradition, Integrity, Professionalism." Obviously prior to our current "Honor, Courage & Commitment" ethos. Interesting note - apparently "T.I.P." NEEDED to be changed after Tailhook '91 and the "contributions" of Paula Coughlin. TRADITION was something that needed to be scrubbed from our "ethos."
